In case you missed it, this week’s federal budget contained some changes relating to migration planning that will have an impact on businesses using skilled migration services to recruit from overseas. These changes included:
• The work experience requirement of the TSS 482 visa will decrease from 2 years to 1 years, effective from 23 Nov 2024 onwards.
• There are 185,000 permanent visas allocated for the next financial year, with 71% going to Skilled Worker-related visas.
• The Business Visa is set to cease entirely.
The budget was also notable for drawing attention to some recent visa trends:
• The refusal of student visas increased dramatically, especially for applicants from popular countries like India and China.
• There are plans to put caps on the number of international students taken for each education provider (including both universities and colleges).
• The Working Holiday Visa for Chinese applicants has stopped, and may or may not open again in the next financial year.
If you think your business may be affected by these changes, get in touch with one of our team today – we’re happy to chat it all through with you.
