The article "Key process and outcome indicators on quality and safety of care for critically ill pediatric patients according to international standard organization protocols: a four-year follow-up study" is very interesting and important study of one Greek Paediatric Intensive Care Unit where since the unit was opened they tried to implement ISO standard, analyse it. Their study is well documented, presented and with excellent discussion on the matter they studied it. We believe this study published in the Signa Vitae will trigger other PICUs not only in Greece but in other countries to put more emphasis on outcome indicators, i.e. quality and safety for critically ill paediatric patients. The 24th of November Dr. #Venla_Kuusinen succesfully defended her PhD thesis at Tampere University. The opponent professor Marianne Løvstad from University of Oslo (UiO) did an exellent job not only in examining the thesis but also in making the event very informative and pleasant to follow for the broader audience. I had the pleasure to serve as the custos. Below is a link to the public defense. Main findings included enhanced attention to threat stimuli in mild traumatic brain injury #MTBI as evidenced by both behavioral and electrophysiological measures. In addition, a rightward frontal alpha asymmetry #FAA reflecting relatively greater right frontal activity in MTBI than controls was observed. Furthermore, a novel index was innovated that reflected the extent threat related emotional stimuli modulate FAA (eFAA). eFAA correlated with #postconcussion symptoms and differentiated symptomatic from non-symptomatic MTBI and those from controls. These results provide some indication that MTBI may be linked with neurophysiological activity patterns and alterations reflecting vulnerability to emotional symptoms and depression. Furthermore, #eFAA is a promising #biomarker for MTBI reflecting alterations in affective brain functions. In addition, subjects with #Orbitofrontal cortex lesion showed alterations in the attention allocation to emotional stimuli. Haplogroup I1 Haplogroup I1 is a Y-chromosome haplogroup predominantly found in populations of Northern European descent. It is most frequently observed in Scandinavia and Finland, where it reaches its highest frequencies, but it is also found in other parts of Europe, albeit at lower levels. Geneticists believe that Haplogroup I1 likely originated about 15,000 to 25,000 years ago in Europe, possibly among men who found refuge in ice age refugia. The distribution pattern of Haplogroup I1 suggests it was present in hunter-gatherer populations in Europe during the Paleolithic period. After the last glacial maximum, as the ice retreated, carriers of this haplogroup spread northward along with other hunter-gatherer populations, repopulating Scandinavia. Over millennia, its carriers contributed significantly to the genetic makeup of the Nordic populations. Haplogroup I1 is characterized by several genetic markers, the most notable being the M253 mutation, which is used to define this haplogroup. The presence of this marker helps geneticists trace migration patterns and understand the historical demographics of Europe. In terms of anthropological impact, Haplogroup I1 is associated with various historical and prehistorical cultural shifts in Europe, including the movements that shaped the Viking Age. Its high frequency in Scandinavia today suggests a strong founder effect and genetic drift in this region, which has kept the lineage more or less isolated compared to other European populations. Research into Haplogroup I1 continues to provide insights into the movements and interactions of ancient European populations, their survival strategies during harsh climatic eras, and their contributions to the genetic landscape of modern Europe.
