The 35th annual scientific meeting of Spine Society of Australia gave a compelling snapshot of the current state of spine research in Australia. Attending the talks and participating in the discussions helped us to understand current questions in spine surgery. A few talks particularly caught our attention, shedding light on current and emerging approaches in spinal surgery. One of these, "Is Standalone ALIF a Safe and Effective Treatment for Low-Grade Isthmic Spondylolisthesis?" presented by James Toohey (a member of Greg Malham's team) answered their own question with a resounding 'yes'! The study focused specifically on standalone-ALIF for low-grade isthmic spondylolisthesis, with their findings suggesting the standalone-ALIF is a viable option without the need for supplementary posterior fixation in selected patients. This talk not only showcased the cutting-edge research and advancements in spinal surgery, but also underscored the importance of evidence-based practice in improving patient care and informing policy decisions. #SpineSurgery #SSA2024 #SpineHealth #PatientSpecific

This is corrected proof of a new paper we have had the honour to publish at the prestigious Journal of Cranio Maxillofacial Surgery #JCranioMaxillofacSurg#. We have conducted the first systematic review about complications in Temporomandilar Joint #TMJ# arthroscopy. As main conclusion: ”As overall complication rate accounts for less than 8% of the cases, arthroscopy seems to be a highly safe procedure for the treatment of internal derangement (ID) of the TMJ”. https://lnkd.in/dJqm3qzR

🏆 Congratulations to Dr. Yi Yuen Wang, Lachlan Chen, and Alison Magee for their outstanding poster, which was ranked among the Top 10 at the 2024 Spine Society Meeting in Sydney, Australia! Their work, titled "Clinical and Radiological Outcomes following Lumbar Fusion using a Bidirectional Expandable Interbody Device," is a retrospective analysis of patients who had undergone lumbar fusion surgery with Accelus’s FlareHawk® Interbody Fusion System. The results indicated excellent clinical and radiological outcomes with the authors noting that its “unique characteristics of conforming endplates and fixed expansion may provide important benefits over standard expandable or static cages.” View the full poster at https://lnkd.in/gBjH97eM! #SpineSurgery #FlareHawk #LumbarFusion #ExpandableInterbody #Innovation #MedicalResearch
