#Intraoperative ultrasound is a simple option that can instantly provide the surgeon with real time valuable information - either to assess the degree of decompression, locate the tumour (…or even a disc fragment), see the vessels, help with important decisions intraoperatively etc. After using it for two decades in brain and spine I am amazed to witness the progress in the image quality and strongly believe that all spinal surgeons should be comfortable using it. Great to see AO Spine working on implementing this on a wider scale! #ultrasound #spinesurgery
Michael Fehlings, Jim Guest along with Brian Kwon, Jefferson Wilson, and Christoph Hofstetter will be delivering a course on the interoperative use of ultrasound to optimize surgery and examine injury morphology at GSC in Bangkok, taking place May 15. Who should attend? This course is targeted at participants at all levels of spine surgery who would like to advance their knowledge in the use of intraoperative ultrasound to confirm the achievement of adequate decompression. Space is limited so make sure to register soon: https://brnw.ch/21wIV2B

Very happy to have attended the refractive surgery course hosted by Moorfields Education. The course was lead by experts in the field including Dan Reinstein , Bruce Allan and others who gave great insights into the different laser techniques and their outcomes. The highlights of this course for me were : 1- The normograms for predicting the outcomes of the procedure and tailoring the treatment plan for each patient, taking into consideration all the anatomical properties of his eyes , for the best outcome possible. 2-The surgical options for presbyopia. Definitely a promising field in the future! 3- The MS39 interpretation for screening patients and determining Laser vision correction suitability. #refractivesurgery #Lasik #Ophthalmology

As we continue with our blog series on BCLA CLEAR™ Presbyopia, our next paper’s first author is Shehzad Naroo – a Professor at Aston University. While traditional management of presbyopia has concentrated on spectacles, contact lenses and refractive surgery, new treatment options that include manipulation of the scleral tissue and pharmacological interventions are set to change the way we think about this condition. It reviews a wide range of surgical and pharmacological options and the visual and optical outcomes, post-treatment management and the safety and efficacy of the procedures including impact on quality of life.
