Long-Term Recovery In partnership with the County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services, the San Diego Flood Recovery Fund assists San Diegans affected by the January 22, 2024 floods with long-term recovery. Funds will be used to assist with home repairs, unmet needs, and program operation costs, providing temporary housing for those whose homes are uninhabitable. The money raised will be given to San Diego Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) which has been actively supporting flood survivors since early February 2024. Are we prepared for the inevitable storms that threaten our communities? As Hurricane Helene strengthens in the Gulf, it’s a crucial time for Realtors® and residents to focus on disaster preparedness and support. The Florida Realtors® Disaster Relief Fund (DRF) has opened applications to assist those affected by this storm and others. This fund provides critical financial aid to Realtors® and their associations whose homes or offices sustain damage. It’s imperative to document damage thoroughly, including photos and insurance details, to ensure a smooth application process. As we navigate this challenging season, let’s also remember the importance of community support. If you’re looking to help, consider donating to the DRF. Every contribution can make a tangible difference for those in need. Let’s stand together in the face of adversity, ensuring that we support one another as we rebuild and recover. Stay safe, and heed evacuation orders if necessary. #DisasterRelief #HurricaneHelene #CommunitySupport #FloridaRealtors #EmergencyPreparedness #RealtorAdvocacy

Today marks the third day that heavy rainfall has swamped South Florida causing life-threatening flooding to Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Flooding threats will ramp up again once the rain starts to fall this afternoon with more than 8 million people under flood alerts including those in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Naples. One shelter will be opened today in North Miami and we have additional sheltering teams on standby. We are working with community partners to identify emerging needs as rainfall is expected to continue (as much as 4 inches each hour) through Friday. The storm system identified as Disturbance 90L is still within a 20% chance of cyclone formation in the next seven days. In preparation for the widespread need, we have established a disaster relief operation for the state of Florida and have mobilized the National Incident Command Team to be on-site immediately. Concurrently, Red Cross teams continue to provide relief to the hundreds of families that were impacted by the devastating tornadoes that made landfall in Tallahassee and the surrounding communities in early May. The Red Cross, along with our partners throughout the state of Florida, are on high alert as we continue to monitor the storm’s progress. At a Glance: · Heavy rain has already triggered serious flooding in Florida this week. · More rounds of heavy rain are expected through Saturday. · A tropical depression or storm could form early next week in the southwest Gulf of Mexico. · Rain could also soak parts of Louisiana, Texas and eastern Mexico. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 feet have drenched South Florida. Serious flooding unfolded Wednesday in the Miami-Dade and Broward County areas of South Florida, prompting a rare flash flood emergency warning to be issued by the National Weather Service. Rainfall totals on Wednesday alone were 10 to 15 inches in those areas. Totals over the 48 hours ending early Thursday are now over 20 inches in North Miami and 19 inches in the Hallandale and Hollywood areas of Broward County. One location in the Everglades of Collier County has now seen over two feet of rain. If you or your family have been in the path of the storm and need assistance, please call 1-800-REDCROSS. If you would like to support our relief efforts, please visit redcross.org to donate or volunteer. Disaster recovery is as nuanced as it is costly, especially in a region like Greater Houston. Unfortunately, recent storms are unlikely to be the end of our challenges. As we all contribute to help our neighbors rebuild and recover from devastating floods and winds, we must also focus on creating resiliency and bolstering our region for future disasters. The Severe Weather and Derecho Fund run by the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance, a partnership between United Way of Greater Houston and Greater Houston Community Foundation, supports immediate recovery for Greater Houston's most financially vulnerable populations, while also helping to prepare them for future disasters. ~75% of funds will support long-term recovery efforts, including home repair and resource navigation, and ~25% will support immediate relief through emergency flexible financial assistance. Before you start your long weekend, I encourage you to learn more about the fund and consider making a donation to support our neighbors. Support recovery: https://lnkd.in/gTEFEQmX #DerechoRecovery
