"Collaboration over competition" is a philosophy that emphasizes the value of working together rather than competing against one another. This approach can be applied in various contexts, including business, education, community development, and personal relationships. #changemakers13 #collaboration #competition #philosophy #business #education #community #development #personalgrowth

#Reflexivepractice Friday Today's question is, "What do I know about myself?" A question commonly considered by qualitative researchers might seem silly to ask a community development practitioner. How community development practitioners understand approaches like "co-design," "participation," and "locally led" shapes how they engage in community development projects and, therefore, influences their success. So-called participatory approaches can perpetuate colonial structures or be used as an instrument to democratise development projects. The approaches, methods, activities and tools used in the project, and the community's roles, depend largely on the community development team/practitioners' worldviews, values, and stance towards social inclusion. #GEDSI #communitydevelopment #internationaldevelopment #particpation #socialinclusion

Imbalances of power can manifest throughout an entire project and hinder any participatory goals you may have; the very first reflexive practice question for you is, "What do I know about myself?" Understanding your positionality is essential, even before you write the proposal. Follow for a #Reflexivepractice question every Friday morning.

We keep talking about the intersections of people's identities, but I wonder how our practice might change if we flip the script and focus on the intersections of power. For example, what is the logical outcome at the intersections of patriarchy and capitalism? How might this lens deepen, strengthen or change my community development practice? #internationaldevelopment #diversityequityinclusion #GEDSI #intersectionality

Power is a very abstract idea, a big and complicated concept. Each of us understands it in our own way, within the context of the issues we work on, the people we work with, what we have read about it, or based on our own experiences of power. The purpose of this workshop is to sort out the confusion and help us move to a shared understanding of power so that all of us who are committed to community development or social justice can build our strategies from a more comprehensive, shared definition and analysis of power as it operates in society, regardless of our specific issues, or socio-economic, political and cultural contexts. In this workshop, we will unpack: Where is it? What does it look like? What are its causes or sources? How does it work? When: Tuesday 20th August 2024 Time: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm AEST Where: Ceres Environmental Park Melbourne / Naarm. Cost: $250.00 / $212.50 + BF https://lnkd.in/gNEg5vwF
