Emphasising sustainability in supply chain operations is not just an environmental need but a strategic imperative that enhances competitiveness and operational resilience. Senior executives should ensure that sustainability objectives are deeply integrated into their strategic planning and supported by all departments to maximize impact and efficiency. Strategic Implications for Senior Executives: 1. Leadership and Responsibility: CSCOs are uniquely positioned to drive sustainability projects that align with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). However, the success of these initiatives requires full support and collaboration from the entire leadership team, not just the CSCO. 2. Integration into Business Strategy: Sustainability should be integrated as a core component of business strategies. CSCOs can leverage their comprehensive view of the supply chain to implement robust tracking and reporting mechanisms for sustainability performance. 3. Competitive Advantage: Proactive sustainability practices are increasingly crucial for maintaining competitive advantage and market reputation.
