As The Sato Project prepares for a big Freedom Flight this Sunday, I wanted to share something very special with you. Today we are launching a new campaign called #WeCantRescueOurWayOutOfThis - and with that campaign comes a startling, intimate look at the reality of the stray dog overpopulation crisis in #PuertoRico today. The island is now facing a public health crisis and we're on the brink of a situation we've never seen before in the history of our organization. I started rescuing in 2007, and my experience has prepared me for many challenges, but nothing like this. I made this video to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how we are addressing this issue systemically rather than by our old model of rescuing one dog at a time. Friends and followers like you have been a crucial part of our #SatoStrong community, helping us rescue thousands of dogs through Spayathons, Mission Possibles, and even in the midst of natural disasters like Hurricane Maria, Irma, and Fiona. But as the hurricanes worsen, adoptions plummet, and prices on the island surge, our backs are against the wall. We're facing a new type of storm. With 650,000 stray dogs roaming the streets and beaches of #PuertoRico, one dog at a time won't cut it. We can't rescue our way out of this. Operation Sato - a groundbreaking initiative that combines mass spay/neuter clinics with our rescue efforts is our solution. I call it our one-two punch approach. As you just watched, every patient that attends these events receives over $600+ in crucial medical services, including a surgical sterilization, vaccinations, microchip, preventatives, and testing for blood-borne illnesses. We urgently need to raise $150,000 by the end of September to continue providing these services to satos in need. Thanks to generous partners, every dollar raised this month up to $75,000 will be matched - doubling your impact. If you do anything today, watch this video, share it, post it. Please visit our website to make a matched contribution now. Your immediate action can save countless lives, and will directly reduce the suffering for more than half a million defenseless animals who cannot advocate for themselves. Thank you for giving what you can. Every dollar saves lives. Urgently and gratefully, Chrissy Beckles President & Founder The Sato Project www.thesatoproject.org https://bit.ly/3Xoxz2x

Reach and Throw, Don't Go! Even the bravest superheroes should know their limits. If someone is struggling in the water, resist the urge to jump in after them. Instead, become a "Reach and Throw" hero! Find a life preserver or pool noodle and extend it to the person in need. Then, call for help from a grown-up immediately. Learning to Float: This superpower is a lifesaver! Teach your child to relax on their back and kick their legs to stay afloat. Practice this skill in a shallow area with adult support until they become comfortable. "Being strategic and collaborative is essential in this kind of work. To deploy or send resources in response to a crisis, we need to be invited in by local authorities and organizations, so that we do not unintentionally add to the chaos in the aftermath or offer services that are not needed. We take steps to ensure that we are ready every day. That means committing funds to team readiness, advanced training, acquisition of essential supplies, vehicle and equipment purchases and maintenance, partnerships, and other dimensions of preparedness." Most horses in Ghana have very difficult lives, pegged to a single spot for days on end or stuck in small paddocks, not enough food, no water, no shelter from the elements, essentially abandoned, often neglected. Even for horses with decent owners, misinformation abounds and even when provided with care, the "care" can do more harm than good. Check out my blog post about how Animal-Kind International is helping the Six Freedoms rescue and care for Ghana's horses, https://wix.to/m4XcG50 #newblogpost

❗ ❗ Top Tips for Keeping Your Pets Safe During a Disaster: 1️⃣ If it’s not safe for you to stay in your home during an emergency, it’s not safe for them either! 2️⃣ Include supplies for your pet in your emergency kit, or assemble an emergency kit for your pet. 3️⃣ Make an evacuation plan for you and your pets. Many hotels and shelters do not accept animal guests, other than service animals. #LoveYourPetDay

Investment Advisor Representative with Prime Capital Financial "Inspiring Others to Achieve Their Life's Ambitions"
Yesterday was wild ... First off, everyone is OK! Our sliver of Gods Country is in a "Red Flag" warning of fires because of the drought mixed with windy conditions. We have been in a burn ban for weeks. Volunteer firefighters have been on edge waiting for a good rain or a bad fire, hoping for option #1 to come first. What seems to be a cigarette butt tossed from a car passing by quickly turned into a 4 mile chase to get ahead of the fire and mitigate damage. I guess you should "Never under estimate the impact one small action can have"??? Firefighters with 30+ years of experience didn't hesitate to say this is the worst field fire they'd ever seen. When grass or field fires spread, farmers with cultivators are called in the quickly work the ground ahead of yhe blaze to prevent the fire from grabbing dry corn and jumping to the next section. Through the smoke & wind, they jump to the frontline. These guys have better things to do .... the firefighters have full time jobs, the farmers have their own fields to harvest... but nobody cares. They jump in to help their neighbors anyway. For almost 3 hours, they worked to cultivate in hopes their buffer of dirt was wider than the wind could carry the smallest ash. They knocked on doors to evacuate people, homes, and farm equipment. Some even jumping in un-manned equipment to move it out of the path. Firefighters and Farmers from multiple counties and cities dropped everything to lend a hand and get the smoke and fire under control. They succeeded with no injury or casualty & today they went back to their "normal jobs" like nothing happened. No one person stood a chance against this. It took a team - men whom some have never met each other came together, quickly got to work, and even stuck around to help clean up after the fight was over. *maybe over a few libations* Your local volunteer firefighters, EMS and farmers could be thanked 100x a day and it wouldn't be enough. They gain lifetime brotherhoods but not without the expenses of time away from family to train & prepare for the "on-call" duties. The emergencies don't care if it's the middle of the night or if you're at a birthday party of if you just got off a 12 hour shift. Yet, they go anyway. #AnswerTheCall #LoveServeBringValue #Endure #LeadWithoutThanks

This flight was an emotional one. My first flight without Jax. Going anywhere without a service animal/human after 10 years is an unfortunate reality for me, as it takes 2 years to train a service dog and my ex took my Schnauzer in the breakup we were training, knowing Jax was getting old and needed to retire. So, if you see me around, getting back to travel for work again, look out for me. If you see someone having a seizure, here are some tips to help: 1. Stay calm and time the seizure. 2. Move objects away that could cause injury. 3. Cushion their head and turn them on their side. 4. Do not restrain them or put anything in their mouth. 5. Stay with them until they are fully alert. Your awareness and kindness can make a world of difference. Love this community, ‘cause I know some of you even got certified for me. 🫶 #epilepsyawareness #servicedog #jaxtax #worktravel
