Today is National Honey Bee Day, a day to celebrate the eight species of honey bees around the globe! According to the USDA, honey bees are crucial to U.S. agriculture and contribute $15 billion in pollination services annually. Put another way, approximately ¾ of the world's flowering plants depend on pollinators or about 1 out of every three bites of food we eat. To support honey bee populations, landscape for pollinators and add pollinator strips to your gardens, farms, and forests. #nationalhoneybeeday #honeybees #bees

Pollination is fundamental for the survival of the ecosystem. Globally, 75% of food crops depend upon animal pollination, a process accomplished by bats, bees, birds, butterflies, beetles, etc. Most of the vegetables and fruits you consume are made possible by these creatures, particularly honey bees. Presently, the rate of extinction of honey bees is approximately 1000 times higher than normal. 35% of invertebrate pollinators face extinction. Current conditions make it critical that we not callously destroy bee hives simply because we find them an inconvenience. Think twice before getting rid of a bee’s nest. What would happen if bees went extinct? Where would we be without bees? As far as important species go, they are top of the list. They are critical pollinators: they pollinate 70 of the around 100 crop species that feed 90% of the world. Honey bees are responsible for $30 billion a year in crops. That’s only the start. We may lose all the plants that bees pollinate, all of the animals that eat those plants and so on up the food chain. Which means a world without bees could struggle to sustain the global human population of 7 billion. Our supermarkets would have half the amount of fruit and vegetables: https://lnkd.in/e7CEHwCH #bees #insects #wildlife #pollinators #nature #ecosystems

If you woke up and forget your #purpose today. Help the #bees. They are quite incredibly the pillars of our society. Bees pollinate food crops "In the UK alone, around 70 crops depend on or benefit from bee pollination. While there are other methods of pollination, including by other animals and the wind, wild bees can pollinate on a much bigger and more efficient scale. Estimates suggest it would cost UK farmers an incredible £1.8 billion a year to manually pollinate their crops" A practical guide shared by the The Woodland Trust on how you can attract bees to your local habitat. https://lnkd.in/eKQ5Abne #Nurture what you have and let #Nature look after you... Bees and other pollinating insects are crucial to our food security 🐝 Did you know that in Europe, around four out of five wild-flower and crop species depend on pollinators? 🦋 And it used to be believed that mostly honeybees pollinate crops, but recent research has shown that other insects also play a vital role in crop pollination, such as: ▶ Hoverflies ▶ Butterflies ▶ Moths ▶ and some beetles Sadly, however, one in three pollinating species are disappearing in the EU! Discover how EU-funded research helps halt #pollinator decline 👇 europa.eu/!FNc7M4

Happy World Bee Day everyone! 🐝 Pollination is a fundamental process for the survival of our ecosystems. - 75% of the world’s food crops - 35% of global agricultural land - and nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend on animal pollination. ❗Honeybee numbers have been up in the US, which is amazing news, but bees and other pollinators are still under threat from human activities. Let’s look after these animals by joining "No Mow May," pausing mowing during the month of May, allowing flowers to bloom in your lawn to help early-season pollinators. Do orange trees need bees to pollinate? 🍑 🍑 🍑 Monica Hampton, Ph.D Pollination is the process that turns a flower into a fruit. It transfers pollen from the male part of one flower, the stamen, to the female part of another flower, the pistil. Most orange trees, including Oranges Navel and Valencia (juicing varieties), are self-fertile and do not need bees to pollinate and set fruits. However, fruit set and production can significantly increase if pollinating insects like bees are utilized. #orange #citrus #bees #pollinators #agriculture #Beekeppers #organicagriculture #orangehoney #honey

🐝Today marks Bees Needs Week!🐝 Pollinators like bees are crucial for the environment and food production. Did you know that Almost 90% of wild plants and 75% of leading global crops depend on animal pollination? One out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollinators such as bees. Crops that depend on pollination are five times more valuable than those that do not. Bees' Needs Week is an annual event coordinated by Defra to raise awareness and encourage actions to support pollinators. They share 5 simple actions that could help. 🐝Grow more nectar-rich flowers, shrubs and trees. Using window or balcony boxes are good options if you don't have a garden. 🐝Let patches of garden and land grow wild. 🐝Cut grass less often. 🐝Do not disturb insect nests and hibernation spots. 🐝Think carefully about whether to use pesticides. Happy #WorldBeeDay! 🎂🐝 #DidYouKnow #pollinators like bees play a vital role in feeding our world, by pollinating many of the crops we rely on for food? In fact, one in three bites of food we eat depends on these hard-working heroes. 🍎 Today, pollinator decline faces an all-time high. The American bumble bee population has dropped by nearly 90% in the past few decades. Now is the time to take urgent action to help the pollinators who work so hard to help us. 💚 Visit our website to find tips to help #bees and other pollinators: 👉 https://bit.ly/4bneMJR #PeopleForPollinators #SaveTheBees

JuniperTree Meadery (our spotlight for July) knows that bees aren’t just important to mead making– they’re important to all life on Earth. From their website: “Many people are now becoming aware of how critical the honeybee population is to life on earth. So much of our plant based food crops depend on insect pollination, in which the honeybee stands supreme. The product of Mead helps create awareness of the plight of a declining bee population, and also puts a demand on honey products which incentivizes beekeepers to maintain productive apiaries”. We salute Juniper Tree meadery (and all meadmakers, beekeepers, & apiaries) helping to keep the bees buzzing and the earth turning. #Cheers
