Hey all - THESE are the positions for which I'm directly hiring on the Star Wars Jedi team at Respawn. Technical Gameplay Designer (https://buff.ly/3UfzZzx) - This is a 50/50 design/technical position where you'll gradually take on more gameplay related design features while providing technical guidance and support for the team. A real solid fit for someone with and CS or computer engineering background and a flair for gameplay design. We are open to associate and mid-level candidates; Unreal engine experience is a big plus but not a requirement. Principal Gameplay Designer (https://buff.ly/3UklSsV) - This is one of the coolest open positions, and very unique. We're seeking someone with deep player control design experience, preferably within the 3rd person action-adventure genre. You will own the features of player controls and non-combat traversal, so if you have significant hands-on experience designing engaging traversal and know 3Cs inside and out (and have experience doing so within Unreal engine), we are eager to speak with you. Principal Level Designer (https://buff.ly/3UfA9XF) - For this role, we are seeking someone with extensive layout and implementation skills within Unreal engine in a 3rd person action adventure genre. People with experience in genres like FPS are encouraged to apply too if they have campaign or mission design examples they can showcase. And if you don't have Unreal experience but demonstrable experience in a similar engine, we would love to learn more about your process. Our level designers get the opportunity to own large portions of the game. A portfolio of work, or visual examples of levels you've built and owned, is required. Senior Level Designer (https://buff.ly/42tCxfH) - Similar to the principal level but a little narrower in scope of ownership, you will partner closely with the other level designers on the team while also having your own areas of ownership. We would love to see your body of work in a portfolio! As mention in one of Bryan’s videos from a A Life After Layoff as their is going to be some unpredictable job layoffs within the market for several industries, that people are going to face & undergo for the 2024 calendar year(depending on how their fiscal quarters situations do & vary up). The Walt Disney Company slashed 7,000 positions in series of three-waves (in 2023) for diluting about 3% of their global workforce, in effort to save $5.5B+ in cost savings. Now fast forward towards today in 2024, as being reported by TechCrunch that Pixar Animation Studios is being targeted, for “a number of 1,000 positions being laid off”, of about 20% of what sources are saying. This is due towards the subject matter for like upcoming film schedules/productions and staffing for future greenlight films. Greetings and salutations 🤩 - It’s week eight (8) of my #hiregleananow #fyc campaign where I share the kind words people have said about working with me in hopes of finding my next full-time opportunity as a producer in the scripted episodic space. We had the support of marketing leadership as well as many other departments that wanted to see us do well. 💡 I'm extremely interested in opportunities in shifting my focus to Creative/Development/Producing for scripted episodic projects - especially in the model that we’ve seen out of the UK/Europe (TV/streaming). According to a source familiar with the situation, Pixar Animation Studios, the company behind beloved films like "Toy Story" and "Up," started firing roughly 14% of its #employees on Tuesday as it reduced the amount of original content it was producing for streaming services. The The Walt Disney Company segment will experience job layoffs that will impact about 175 people. In order to generate original shows, the animation studio brought on more #employees as former Disney CEO Bob Chapek urged all of the company's creative groups to produce material specifically for Disney+. Pixar will now again concentrate only on producing feature films, which will first play in theatres before being streamed to homes viaDisney+. This year, Disney+ will debut a single original series called "Win or Lose," which is about a coed softball team. Reuters revealed the initial round of layoffs last year and that more layoffs were planned earlier this year. Wow - it’s already week three (3) of my aggressive for your consideration (#fyc) campaign based on the kind words others have said about me and my skills. It’s still hot and heavy for awards & film festival season …this week’s #fyc post focuses on my ability to adapt and evolve in a focused, steady way based on changing business conditions. 💵 If I had invested $10 for every, single time I’ve joined a company and the business changed in some drastic way (often at breakneck speed) I’d be able to at the very least retire at the ripe old age of 45 ( 😂 only 10 years later than I originally planned to when I first started out…but alas I digress and this post is NOT about me retiring - YET)! 👋🏾 Depending on when we met or when you eventually see this post you might have known me as a marketer of some sort I’ve done almost all you can do within entertainment marketing for 20+ years, but some of you met me as a filmmaker or film festival programmer (shoutout to Bentonville Film Festival). No matter how we met, I’m extremely proud of how I’ve managed to evolve my career and remain relevant and attempting to do what I love and I’m most passionate about 20+ years later. 💡 To be clear I'm extremely interested in opportunities in shifting my focus to Creative/Development/Producing for scripted episodic projects (TV/streaming). Ooh! This is a very interesting sneak peek into Crunchyroll and what the group's position is within the Sony Pictures Entertainment pecking order. Key quote: "Indeed, Goldman Sachs last year estimated Crunchyroll will account for 36% of all profit in the Sony Pictures Entertainment segment, encompassing the conglomerate’s film and TV content businesses, by 2028. Purini wouldn’t comment on exact numbers, but he confirmed the service is profitable and emphasized there’s still room to grow even as more “general entertainment” companies move into the anime space." Rahul Purini and his C-suite are not going to be sweating it over the likes of #Disney and #NETFLIX moving into anime because they know that there isn't much of a chance that either company can compete with Crunchyroll in terms of depth and reach. Their library is too vast. Their connection with the established #anime audience runs too deep. This deepness of connection between the brand and the fan community makes Crunchyroll an aspirational brand for fledgling anime fans to covet and as the Crunchyroll CEO points out, it's the secret sauce to acquisition and retention. It's amazing! I would also hazard a guess that it is also simply too difficult for these large global competitors to Sony to build their own rival anime offering this late in the day. Anime sits outside of Disney's traditional scope of business, while they also struggle to build a sustainable streaming business with what they already have. Crunchyroll may have an unassailable lead. Saying that! The Walt Disney Studios! If you're listening. I am here for you should you need some help. As for Netflix. I suspect they are comfortable with the strategy they have developed over nearly a decade's worth of play-testing. They've really put their money where their mouth is and we thank them for it. I suspect many anime fans see Netflix as a home of "prestige anime" originals, series and events. When they get anime right, they really get it right (See #CyberpunkEdgerunners, #ScottPilgrim and the excellent #DeliciousInTheDungeon), and they've taken their learnings and massive anime viewing dataset to help turbo-charge #adultanimation and #animeadjacent programming with hits like #Castlevania, #CaptainLaserhawk, #ARCANE and the Annie Awards conquering #BlueEyeSamurai.
