As many know I have been an AFSP Talk Saves Lives Trainer for quite a few years now. It is one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I lead a 45-60 minute "Introduction to Suicide Prevention" training "live" online. This training covers the scope of this leading cause of death, what the research has found to be the warning signs and risk factors of suicide, and the strategies that prevent it. Please reach out if you are struggling or if you are interested in this training. We can come together to #StartTheConversation
This #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, let’s come together to #StartTheConversation by having important, meaningful discussions. This year’s theme is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” – which starts with embracing difficult conversations, breaking the stigma, leaning on those around you and connecting those in need to resources like the 988-suicide hotline. Stigma has been a longtime barrier to accessing mental health care and although there has been progress, there’s still work to be done. Aimee Prange, MSW, LCSW, discusses the importance of normalizing the conversation around #suicide and debunks a common misconception in this Resources for Living video.
