This groundbreaking ISRO mission will complement IXPE’s observations by measuring the degree and angle of polarization of high-energy X-ray sources, providing a more comprehensive view of cosmic objects like black holes and neutron stars. Exoplanets hold fascination since an exoplanet is the most likely location for life elsewhere in the universe. For millennia, one of the most fundamental questions posed by humans has been "Are we alone?" By studying exoplanets, we can learn how solar systems form and we can determine how common, or rare, are the conditions of our Solar System and our planet Earth. The primary goal for a future NASA flagship astrophysics mission is to find biosignatures in the atmospheres of Earth-like exoplanets orbiting Sun-like stars within 200 light-years of Earth. IAU Symposium 384: Planetary Nebulae: a Universal Toolbox in the Era of Precision Astrophysics Tomorrow, September 4th 2023, the IAU symposium 384 will start in Krakow, Poland, with a session on extragalactic planetary nebulae. While astronomers share the excitement for the new high resolution images of the Ring nebula acquired with JWST, we will also look at these amazing tracers of the late phases of stars in other the nearby galaxies, from the Great Andromeda galaxy (M31) to the nearby cluster of galaxies. They're black holes, but they're some of the brightest objects in the universe—and thanks to NYU astronomers, we now know the locations of about 1.3 million of them. NYU's David Hogg and colleagues have completed the largest map of the universe's known quasars, which are powered by supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies and can be hundreds of times brighter than an entire galaxy. As the black hole’s gravitational pull spins up nearby gas, the process generates an extremely bright disk, and sometimes jets of light, that telescopes can observe. The scientists built the new map, which charts the largest-ever volume of the universe, using data from the European Space Agency’s Gaia space telescope.
