Good Morning SACDS! Many of you have reached out and asked how you can help your colleagues, classmates, and friends, effected by the horrific wildfires in Southern California. The CDA Foundation has set a special fund just to help members and their teams who need assistance due to the fires. Donation instructions are below. Let’s show our dental family in LA that SACDS is here for them. The Foundation has opened the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund to help our colleagues and community members displaced by this disaster. The fund is now accepting monetary donations from anyone who wishes to support this effort, and one hundred percent of your tax-deductible donation will go toward those in need.    How to donate: Specify the amount of your donation. Select the frequency of your donation (one-time). Choose “Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund” from the drop-down menu. Fill in the remaining fields and select “continue” to proceed with payment. (Volume-related delays are impacting page load times. If you experience a delay, try refreshing the page. Once you submit payment, do not close the window until you see a payment confirmation message which will include a link to your payment receipt. How to best help communities when a natural disaster strikes? GIVIT! There are many people in need across the country. People lost their homes in the hurricane that swept through North Carolina and the Appalachian mountains. People lost their homes in the fires that have consumed parts of Los Angeles county. I’m grateful that no one I personally know died or was injured in either of these catastrophes. However, one family, who I know personally, lost their home in Altadena, CA. The Garb family has lived there since 1992. They paid off their mortgage in December 2024, just to have their home and everything in it taken away in January 2025. Ellen just finished chemotherapy after having breast cancer surgery in 2024. She also suffers from mild cerebral palsy, and only works part time. Larry has worked in film editing for nearly 40 years, and this is an industry that is being outsourced to other countries and technologies. Ellen and Larry have not even taken a vacation in two years because of the major cutbacks and reductions his company has made. He just turned 60. This was a major blow for them. A very kind hearted, caring, family that have always been welcoming. Who knows how long it will be before they can rebuild and move into a home... It will likely be a long time. Their family history was practically taken in a night. Now, they wait in limbo to find a temporary home until they can have a place of their own again. NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS! The most effective way to help victims is through cash donations, as that’s the quickest way to get assistance to those in need. It immediately grants on-the-ground charities the flexibility to purchase the supplies they need. While there is often an urge to send water, blankets, food and other items, charity organizations aren't ready to handle the logistical challenges of organizing, sorting, storing and distributing physical goods. Donating money to trusted charities means the money goes to what's needed right now in the places it's needed most. Charities also often get bulk discounts and, if possible, will purchase items in the disaster area to help support local economic recovery. There might be a time when items are needed, but in the early days it's money. To donate money, please visit the Disaster Recovery and Relief Fund.
