✉ The May Newsletter was sent out last week. It contains: 🛠 Newly uploaded practical materials: A webinar (part of the International Society For Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD) Connect series) on behaviour change interventions for schistosomiasis elimination, presented by the Global Schistosomiasis Alliance. In this webinar Carlos A. Torres Vitolas, PhD MRSTMH discusses the implications of the study “Behaviour Change for Schistosomiasis Control and Elimination: A systematic review from LMIC” and Geordie Woods presents the WASH and NTDs toolkit/guide on how to engage and work collaboratively to improve delivery of WASH services to underserved populations affected by NTDs. 💸 A special section on financial impact of NTDs: Immurana et al., (2024), examines the macroeconomic effects of certain NTDs, revealing that an increase in prevalence of disease is associated with a fall in economic performance. Another featured article by Patikorn et al., (2024), a systematic review, explores the financial hardship among persons affected by NTDs, showing that catastrophic health spending and out-of-pocket costs related to certain NTDs can lead to financial hardship. 📰 Other new NTDs publications: 1. The new global report on neglected tropical diseases 2024 by the World Health Organization in which a wide range of activities, accomplishments, and challenges across the portfolio of NTDs and all six WHO regions are described. 2. The scoping review on the impact of climate change on NTDs and malaria by the WHO Task Team on Climate Change, NTDs, and Malaria. 3. The thought-provoking opinion piece “Who is a global health expert” by Ojiako et al., (2023). 📆 Events & Webinars: 1. Togo on its path towards the elimination of onchocerciasis – GONE webinar June 14, 2024. 2. Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases and USAID 10 years of partnership anniversary! - a brochure highlighting their accomplishments 3. The 1st edition of the Conference on NTDs by AME has been tentatively scheduled from 14-16 November in Nairobi, Kenya, as a hybrid meeting. 4.
