History of healthcare in Saudi Arabia
The beginning of the health system in the Kingdom was 1925, after King Abdulaziz Al Saud issued a royal decree establishing the Public Health Authority based in Mecca, provided that it has other branches in various regions
Shortly after 1925, the Directorate of Public Health and Ambulance was established, with the aim of paying attention to health and environmental affairs, and working to establish hospitals and health centers throughout the Kingdom
By 1926, the first nursing school was opened, followed by the opening of a school of health and emergency in 1927
A ministerial decree was then issued in 1980 that led to the establishment of an administrative merger of existing dispensaries, health centers, health offices and maternal and child health centers
In 2002, the Saudi health system was established by royal decree, to ensure the comprehensive provision and integration of health care for the entire population in Saudi Arabia in a fair and affordable manner
Health services have gone through several stages until they reached the picture we find today, which included workforce development, hospitals, primary health care centers, emergency and ambulance services, as well as the development of the private sector (for-profit and non-profit)
Finally , The health care train continues to keep pace with the progress made in other sectors in the Kingdom on the way to a bright and promising future, God willing, its goal and human built, which always remains the focus of all ambitious plans and programs
