Keep facility staff updated on any changes in patient conditions or care needs. - Stay Updated with Clinical Skills Aged care and acute care require distinct skills. Stay current with best practices, from infection control to palliative care. - Be Adaptable to Different Workflows Embrace new documentation systems (like EMRs) and care approaches as you move between facilities. - Prepare for Emotional Challenges Supporting older residents and acutely ill patients can be tough—take care of yourself and find ways to unwind after shifts. - Stay Organized with Documentation Familiarize yourself with common documentation systems, and ask about shortcuts that can save you time. - Advocate for Patient-Centered Care Always prioritize the needs of residents and patients, no matter how short your time at the facility. Nurse Practitioner Educating the Next Generation in Health Care - CEO/Owner of Latrina Walden Exam Solutions
Nurse practitioners (NPs) are often the first point of contact for patients with STIs. Knowledge of effective treatments ensures that they can provide timely and appropriate care. NPs should also educate patients about the importance of adherence to treatment regimens, potential side effects, and preventive measures to avoid future infections. Informed patients are more likely to comply with treatment and take preventive actions. Treatment for the STIs mentioned consists of various antibiotics. Chlamydia: • Azithromycin: A single dose of 1g is effective due to its long half-life, making it convenient and improving compliance. It is recommended as the first choice in pregnancy. • Doxycycline: 100mg twice a day for 7 days is highly effective in treating chlamydia. The longer course ensures thorough eradication of the infection. Gonorrhea: The CDC currently recommends a shot of Ceftriaxone, with dosage based on the patient's weight: • 500 milligrams of Ceftriaxone if less than 150 kilograms, 1 gram otherwise. • If allergic to Ceftriaxone, give a shot of Gentamicin (240 milligrams) plus 2 grams of Azithromycin (orally). Trichomoniasis: CDC Regimen Recommendations: • Women: Metronidazole 500 mg 2 times/day for 7 days. • Men: Metronidazole 2 g orally in a single dose. • Alternative for Women and Men: Tinidazole 2 g orally in a single dose. #aanp #ancc #nursingstudent #nursepractitioner #nursing #nursingschool #nursingnotes
