Friday Flops! On the move in Chicago for the American Dental Association New Dentist Committee; finished a great second day! The flop is inadequate seating of a SSC. Tooth #I has an open distal margin. There can be two causes: Inadequate occlusal reduction Inadequate interproximal reduction or space In this case the distal was not reduced enough and the crown didn’t clear the margin. An easy way to check is to use your explorer to make sure there is a feather margin. If the patient is cooperative I redo the crown if not we reevaluate.

Airway Orthodontics in Rockville MD It’s intuitive that each person must have a healthy airway that permits access to a steady supply of oxygen. This ample supply should exist while a person is asleep, awake, at rest or at work. In other words, the body should be structured and balanced sufficiently that the airway is always fully open, enabling easy and relaxed breathing at all times. As dental and orthodontic science continue to advance, it is now understood how the development of a person’s mouth, teeth, jaws and face will affect their ability to breathe easily. The better their breathing, the less stress their body suffers. As a consequence, the more ideal their mental and emotional functioning will be. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gQBr-JE9

#keyterminology #Quickoverview 🔗 What is Anchorage? 🔘 Anchorage Definition: - Anchorage is the resistance to unwanted tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. - Follows Newton’s Third Law: For every action (desired tooth movement), there is an equal and opposite reaction (unwanted movement). 🔘 Sources of Anchorage: - Teeth (most common). - Palate, Head/Neck( via extraoral force). - Mini-implants or TADs (temporary anchorage devices) screwed into the jaw. 🔘 Control of Unwanted Tooth Movement: - The force should be concentrated on the teeth to be moved. - Dissipate reaction forces over many other teeth to minimize their movement. - Ideal Anchorage Control: Maintain pressure below the threshold for unwanted teeth to prevent their movement. 🔘Force and Pressure Distribution: - Tooth movement is proportional to the magnitude of pressure, but only up to a point (optimal force plateau). - Beyond this plateau, increased force does not significantly enhance movement and may cause trauma or stress to the anchorage. 🔘Key Points for Exams: - Anchorage management is critical to minimize side effects in orthodontics. - Optimum force level for tooth movement is a light yet effective force that avoids unnecessary trauma. - Techniques like distributing force and using modern devices (e.g., TADs) enhance anchorage control.
