Very excited to share that our latest research has demonstrated, for the first time, that the rapid transitions between whole-brain EEG connectome states (and yes, they are in source-space!) are indeed heritable! Stay tuned for our follow-up study, already accepted in the same journal, which reveals the cognitive significance of these heritable brain phenotypes!

As our world changes, we need to harness physiology to ensure we can prepare and protect those who are affected most. The Physiological Society is working to convert research into action. To ensure the very survival of life on our planet. Our strategy sets out our vision for a world in which physiological discovery leads to healthier lives. Our purpose is timeless: #physiology for a future. For our futures – to lead long, healthy lives, and for the future of humanity. Understanding the human brain through reverse engineering. Understanding the human brain is important as it is the most complex organ in the universe. Complexity of human brain separates us from all other species in the world. It is important to understand the human brain because of several reasons - Disease Insights: By studying brain models, we can gain insights into the mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric diseases. These insights can lead to targeted therapies and interventions for conditions like Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, and autism. Drug Testing: Brain organoids and assembloids provide a platform for testing potential drug candidates. Researchers can evaluate drug efficacy and safety without relying solely on animal models or human trials. Developmental Processes: The brain models allow us to observe brain development in unprecedented detail. We can explore how neural circuits form, how synapses connect, and how different cell types interact during development. Personalized Medicine: As we understand brain variability better, personalized treatments for neurological disorders become more feasible. Brain models can be customized to match an individual’s genetic background, enabling tailored therapies. Interesting talk by Sergiu P. https://lnkd.in/eM_mRbzH notes for this interesting conversation: Transcranial electric stimulation, TES, probably changes the spike threshold by half a millivolt or so. Very small amount! How does DBS (100-200 Hz, 90-160 microseconds) work? Nobody knows for sure. One possible mechanism is: "ionic currents in the extracellular space" instead of "affecting the membrane potential". People agree that some stimulation causes some neurons to fire. It is not that you are silencing neurons. We want spatial specificity and long-lasting plastic changes.
