Aspects of this circumvention are already underway since 2021, with misreading of emergency acts that utilize loopholes generated by concerted strategic saturation of agencies with proposals, and then selecting project bounds in areas that have a legacy of unrectified tribal displacement, further reinforced through selective industrial-political rackets (cf SE Michigan, Northern Illinois), and emboldened by Federal and local redevelopment programs. Future fines are levied against risks of current penalties and delays on building. The housing crisis and environmental-climate policy are now ruses for irresponsible and immoral building practices that are purely investment coups.

Scientists and policymakers agree that the Bay Area needs 100,000 acres of tidal marsh to remain a healthy environment and properly prepare for sea level rise. For adequate wetland restoration and shoreline protection strategies, it will take around $110 billion in funding. Current funds are not enough to meet the restoration needs of the region, especially since the proposed state budget for this year slashes $450 million in sea level rise adaptation funding. The state needs a climate bond. Currently, legislators are working to pass a bond to raise billions for climate resilience in the state that could potentially show up on the 2024 ballot. To learn more about the current stages of the climate bond and who we support this upcoming year, check out our blog. https://lnkd.in/gfgDgTRP

Carbon Reduction Strategy and Policy | Principal of RMI’s Cement and Concrete Initiative | Previously Working on Transportation, Land Use and Housing + Electricity Decarbonization
Check out david roberts latest podcast to better understand the role of urban land use policy on the climate and in the energy transition. It was an honor to represent RMI's work with Rushad Nanavatty. Thanks for having us David! As Rushad said, we'd love your support accelerating urban land use reform. It has been seriously under-invested in as a climate solution, and we are seeking philanthropic partners who understand the necessity behind zoning reform; without it, we have no pathway to staying on course with a 1.5 °C-- or even 1.7°C future. We had a great team behind the our most recent state land use analysis: Jacob Korn Raghav Muralidharan Jackie Lombardi Anna Zetkulic and Zack Subin. AND we have so many more leading the charge in this space: Benjamin Holland U. Bryn Grunwald Miguel Moravec Andrew Veysey Ryan Warsing Alisa Petersen Julia Meisel Julia Thayne -- list non-exhaustive!! #volts #landuse #climate #states #cities #climatesolutions https://lnkd.in/gm2J53xK

"Green infrastructure and other stormwater management practices in the U.S. are typically designed to detain, retain or filter only the first 1 to 2 inches of runoff. Individually, they can’t capture all the runoff generated during larger storms." Drexel professor Franco Montalto, PhD, writes in 'The Conversation' how communities can work together to make themselves into "sponge cities," capable of soaking up the heavier stormwater that come with climate change.
