Let's revisit Street Child's 'why', and our 'how'. We believe that every child deserves an education—including children living through emergencies like war or natural disasters. So when an emergency strikes, we’re there to support children and their families by: ☞ Meeting immediate survival needs with water, food & shelter ☞ Creating safe spaces where children can recover ☞ Ensuring children can still access education ☞ Kickstarting new enterprises for long-term recovery ☞ Working with local partners at the forefront of the response to ensure they have everything they need to make the biggest impact possible Read more in this blog by our US CEO Anna Bowden at https://lnkd.in/gTGCSCgs That's what gets us up in the morning. In the event I am unavailable, i can only convey a mitigating proposition pertaining to those members of society with special accessibility considerations or with mobility vulnerabilities would be to incorporate a transportation solution that would be community specific. What I mean by this solution is to allow for charter buses or City operated buses to be allocated to affected communities and allow for vulnerable persons (registered) to be picked up when no immediate family or when living outside of a senior retirement home. During a crisis, these vulnerable persons are typically the most affected by the inability to evacuate so, a dedicated bus service would play a huge role in avoiding loss of life. I would still push for allocated buses to transport vulnerable persons from retirement homes but also allow for private residence pickups as well. Thoughts ?

At Street Child, "we believe that every child deserves an education- including children living through emergencies like war or natural disasters." Why" and "how" we turn this believe into a reality, is neatly spelt out in the link below: https://lnkd.in/ei-56JsD

Resilience in Action: The Power of Community in Search and Rescue Efforts The recent search for Jay Slater, a missing British teenager in Tenerife, highlights the critical role of community collaboration in search and rescue operations. Despite the challenging terrain and the heartache of an unresolved disappearance, the collective effort of the local police, Civil Guard, and volunteers demonstrates the strength of community resilience. At International Resilience Partners Ltd., we recognise the importance of preparedness, community involvement, and continuous support in critical situations. The search for Jay may have been called off, but the ongoing investigation, to which we all contribute, reminds us of our responsibility to enhance resilience strategies and support systems in communities worldwide. We continue to advocate for and implement resilience-building practices that can aid in such efforts, ensuring that communities are not only prepared but also supported throughout the process. #CommunityResilience #SearchAndRescue #SafetyFirst

What do climate and homelessness have to do with each other? A lot. The Climate Crisis is most often associated with melting ice caps, severe weather patterns, and the extinction of animals, however, it is important to understand its connection with homelessness in America. As extreme weather events become more frequent and intense, individuals and families are tragically and violently displaced from their homes. Hundreds of homes are destroyed every year due to extreme weather including hurricanes and fires, exacerbating the existing housing crisis. Lost wages from disasters can throw families into financial ruin, and jolt individuals into homelessness. Unpredictable weather leads to significant crop loss, driving up food costs, and leading to food insecurity for at-risk populations. Health conditions caused by pollution make existing health issues worse, making it difficult for individuals to secure or maintain meaningful employment. Homelessness can not be solved without directly addressing the Climate Crisis along with it. We at Tiny Villages Inc. understand that social and climate justice are deeply interlocked, and we are committed to creating a community that addresses both. Visit www.tinyvillages.org/learn to learn more about how climate and homelessness are connected, and how we plan to address it.
