Alex Caruso entered the G league after going undrafted in 2016. A few years later, he was a key player in helping the Lakers win an NBA championship. When asked about how he went from an undrafted nobody to this level of stardom, he said that self-awareness was the key: "A big reason guys get stuck in the G league is because they don't realize the position they're trying out for. It's like going to a job interview thinking you're going to be the CFO of the company and they're looking for someone to clean the bathrooms...it's a self-awareness of understanding what you're good at, what teams need, and trying to do that." Caruso knew he couldn't play the superstar game everyone else was playing. But he knew he could fill a specific role on a roster, play that role consistently, and help a team win. He knew that ego was the enemy and self-awareness was the friend. Success in any endeavor requires you to answer two questions: - What kind of game am I playing? - Is this a game I can win? You're on the right path if you can honestly answer "Yes" to the second question. If not, you need to find a different game. credit to Sahil Bloom

I provide the strategic insights that help companies grow and prosper. I live my life where my passions and my work collide.
I don’t want to live in a city that “used to be” an NFL town. 35 years ago, Touchdown Jacksonville led a successful community-wide effort to convince the NFL that we were worth having a team. It was led by thoughtful debate, conversation, and a sense of what’s best for Jacksonville. On Sept 3, 1995, Jacksonville became one of 32 US NFL cities. 72,000 of us crowded into Jacksonville Municipal Stadium to prove why the Jacksonville Jaguars needed to exist. We earned it because we deserve it. We have a responsibility to remember that success and recognize what it did for our community. Did it make us perfect? No. Did it make us better? YES! It's not just what happens on the field that makes me say YES; it’s also what happens year-round outside the stadium. The Jags are an important thread in our community's fabric, and their appeal reaches beyond Duval County and the border of Florida. I was in New York with a delegation of business leaders to meet with the CEO of a well-known international brand. We were there to show our appreciation and help to convince him to grow his existing Jacksonville operations. I noticed a Jags helmet all lit up in the conference room. I thought, how nice of him to welcome us with Jags swag. When I thanked him for his kindness, he looked puzzled. “I have this helmet because I admire the scrappiness and spunk of the city to get a team, and I love watching them play.” What a great unexpected response! Of the 32 teams he could have picked, even his hometown team, the Jags were proudly represented in the conference room of a multinational company (which did expand its Jax presence). The Jaguars embody the scrappiness and spunk of our great city, which is here to compete and win on the world stage. Now we face a real possibility of losing them and joining the ranks of “used to be” cities if we don’t approve the Stadium of the Future proposal that’s before the City Council. The Jags aren’t saying they're going to leave, but let’s face it: if we don’t do our part, they can’t do theirs. It's time for thoughtful debate, not knee-jerk visceral reactions and a default “no.” Before the deal was fully presented, I saw posts on X calling it “dead on arrival.” How disappointing. I expect that our leaders will take the time to hear the details and engage in thoughtful debate on public policy issues to reach the best decision. That's not asking much. No proposal is perfect. You never get 100% of what you want. Garnering uniform support is impossible. You work to the best place possible looking at all the scenarios and outcomes. It’s about using common sense to move our community forward and help us flourish. “No” should never be the default, especially when it's entirely based on political partisanship. That’s not good for our community, and it’s not good for our city. The city of Jacksonville must make a decision that’s best for the community of Jacksonville. If we don’t do it now, it won’t be an option later.
