Sensible decision from Zimmer Biomet to finally issue a field safety notice for the CPT femoral stem and withdrawing the stem by the end of the year. The CPT has been shown over several studies and several years to have a significantly higher peri-prosthetic fracture rate compared to other well performing polished taper slips stems such as their own MS-30, the CPCS from Smith+Nephew, the X-Acta from Medacta International, the Avanteon from JRI Orthopaedics and our own stem, the original, Exeter. The difficulty now is for patients who have the CPT stem in place. It is important that they are reassured that the CPT remains a well performing stem overall with a low all cause revision construct failure rate and that no additional surveillance is required as with metal on metal hip replacements. The worry is, with the election in the UK dominating the news at the moment, this information will not get the high level exposure needed. It is important that any surgeons continuing to use the CPT stem should be consenting patients for an increased risk of peri-prosthetic fracture post operatively. Or use an alternative. This is likely to have massive implications for supply chains which are already hugely affecting all orthopaedic companies and, as a consequence, will impact waiting times and our patients.

Let's update on how we define #OMPT and how we educate our colleagues and the public of what is OMPT about.
I am honored and privileged to have served as the senior author of this article on Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT). Our work addresses the need for a contemporary definition of the subspecialty OMPT that reflects the latest advances across scientific, clinical, and educational domains. OMPT has often been misunderstood and misclassified, limiting its recognition and integration into scientific reviews and clinical practice guidelines. This article aims to provide a clear and modern definition of OMPT, highlighting its unique and essential aspects and outlining the competency domains required for advanced OMPT training. By offering a current conceptual model and defining the distinguishing characteristics of OMPT, we hope to improve understanding and accurate classification within the scientific literature. This perspective is crucial for clinicians, researchers, and stakeholders to appreciate the full potential of OMPT as a systematic and active patient-centered approach. Thank you to my incredible co-authors for their dedication and insights and Jason Silvernail for leading this. I’m honored to be part of this significant contribution to our field and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists! #PhysicalTherapy #OMPT #Healthcare #Research #ManualTherapy #HealthCareProfessionals
