How familiar are you with Southern Pine’s moisture content rules? Lumber 2″ or less in thickness is capped at 19% moisture, but did you know “KD15” or “MC15” is limited to 15%? Certified grade marks ensure proper seasoning, with restrictions applying at shipment, dressing, or buyer delivery if kept weather-protected. https://buff.ly/4jfothu #SouthernPine #LumberGrading #WoodProducts #Construction #BuildWithWood

It's well known Southern Pine grading rules restrict moisture content of lumber 2″ and less in thickness to a maximum of 19%, but how are you with seasoning requirements for other lumber items? Check out this helpful chart 👉 https://ow.ly/Ym5b50T8Zcc If specified as “KD,” “KD19,” “dry” or “air-dried” the maximum is 19%. If specified as “KD15” (kiln-dried) or “MC15” the maximum is 15%. Material identified by a certified grade mark proves Southern Pine has been properly seasoned. Moisture content restrictions apply at the time of shipment, at the time of dressing if dressed lumber is involved, and at the time of delivery to the buyer unless shipped exposed to the weather. #southernpine #forestproducts #drykiln #lumbergrading #wood #lumber #moisture #buildwithwood

How fast do you dry oak? The weirdest possible question regarding drying wood in a kiln. (No offense) The most basic parameters that affect drying time. - Wood type - Thickness - Dryness level - Wood quality - Final moisture - Final moisture range Softwood dries much faster than hardwood (spruce - oak) Greater thickness - longer drying The drying time in kiln of wood that has been air dried for 2-3 months is not the same as that of wood that comes directly from the sawmill Yes, of course, wood that is of a lower grade (rustic) can withstand faster drying because it is already cracked, full of knots...but don't overdo it with the speed here either, so as not to collapse If it is dried for multi-layer parquet, then the final moisture is 6.5%, while for some other products the moisture requirement is 10% With a moisture range of +- 0.5, conditioning must be much longer than with a range of +- 2.0% All of this affects the drying time, so the above question is incomplete and lacks many parameters for an answer.

Lumber mills typically saw logs into certain actual dimensions but, as the timber is processed, the width and thickness of the end product is consistently less. So why is a 2”x4”, for example, not actually sized 2”x4” 👉 https://ow.ly/wPZQ50UtHFO #southernpine #pine #lumber #dimensionallumber #wood #woodmanufacturing #lumbermanufacturing #buildwithwood

Clear Lumber Clear lumber – free of knots and other “defects” continues to be increasingly more expensive and harder to source. Remember, knots are simply where branches grew out of the trunk. These boards generally require larger diameter logs where more wood fiber allows wood to be graded out for a higher grade. Larger logs come from larger trees – those that have grown for a long time. These are rare and/or are under strict environmental regulations. There are still opportunities based on the actual logs run through the mills. Front Range Lumber made a great acquisition of high quality 4x4, 2x4 and 2x6 Douglas Fir boards. While not literally clear or perfect, these boards are simply incredibly great quality at a very attractive price. Stop in / Give us a call / Visit our website: LAKEWOOD: 1741 S. ❓What's the deal with seal❓ A sealer, like Bona's waterborne line, protects your wood floors from being penetrated by the polyurethane finish. But did you know there are several color options? Take this floor where we placed a sample down of both Bona's Natural Seal and Clear Seal. Can you see the difference? Natural Seal achieves a more "unfinished" look , whereas Clear Seal enhances and highlights the wood grain. Which option do you think this homeowner went with? Tell us in the comments below!

As snow melts, it can lead to an abundance of moisture within and around a structure. Failure to effectively control or dry this moisture can result in a damp setting ideal for mold growth. Mold spores naturally adhere to damp surfaces like wood, drywall, or carpeting. With the moisture from melting snow offering the essential elements for mold growth (moisture, warmth, and organic matter), mold will likely propagate in hard to reach areas of your home.
