Everything old might be new again, allowing more efficient, greener transportation within the State of Ohio and throughout the Midwest. The return of passenger rail to the Columbus Region (and Ohio) just took a big step forward, according to this article from Columbus Business First. Reports indicate that the Columbus Partnership, Experience Columbus, MORPC, and Ohio Rail Development Commission are partnering with American Honda Motor Company, Inc., Intel Corporation, and other corporations to try to make the projects a reality. This collaborative spirit is what makes Columbus special, and fosters growth. According to Business First: "Two lines could go through Columbus – one would connect four Ohio cities and one would connect Ohio to other Midwest cities [including Pittsburgh and Chicago]. ... although [the project is] in step one of a three-step process, passenger rail could be a reality by 2030." What do you think of the initiative?

🚄🌟 Exploring the Future of American Public Transportation: The Brightline Success Story 🛤️ I recently watched an insightful video by Wendover Productions about Brightline, a shining example of successful private passenger rail in the US. As someone deeply interested in American public transportation, Brightline's story resonated with me, especially considering the potential for high-speed rail in the densely populated Northeast. ✨ Key Highlights: 1. 🚄 Innovative Approach: In 2018, Brightline launched its passenger rail service, connecting major metro areas in Florida, a significant step in US transportation. 2. 💵 Funding the Future: Utilizing private activity bonds (PABs) for railway development, Brightline showcases a unique blend of private initiative and public-sector support. 3. ⚖ Tax Advantages & Risks: While PABs offer financial leverage, they also bring concerns about reduced tax revenue and heightened financial risks for states. 4. 👨🔧 Public Service Vision: Brightline emphasizes that passenger rail is more a public service than a business, challenging traditional views on transportation infrastructure. 5. ☀ Promising Potential: Despite challenges, private passenger rail projects like Brightline demonstrate remarkable success and potential in reshaping American transport. 🤔 Reflecting on this, I dream of a day when the Northeast US can boast of high-speed routes stretching from Boston to Miami, connecting not just major cities but also smaller metropolitan zones. The success of Brightline offers a glimpse of what could be possible - a more connected, efficient, and forward-thinking rail network. As we navigate the complexities of transportation infrastructure, stories like Brightline's are crucial. They not only provide successful models but also ignite conversations about sustainable and innovative transport solutions for the future. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eJSfkUtr #PublicTransportation #Brightline #HighSpeedRail #Infrastructure #Innovation #UrbanPlanning #NortheastUS

Did you know USDOT is currently working on America's first high-speed rail? The 218-mile high-speed rail line, Brightline West, is expected to be complete in 2028 and will operate between Las Vegas, Nevada, and Rancho Cucamonga, California. The rail line will be a fully electric, zero-emission system set to become one of the greenest forms of transportation in America! This project and 60,000 others nationwide are transforming the future of our country's transportation. Additionally, this effort is estimated to support 35,000 jobs, including 1,000 permanent jobs once the line is operational. When discussing the project, Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated, “An estimated 10 million people will one day ride this line yearly....When this line opens there will be a million fewer cars stuck in traffic. So even if you don't use it, you'll be benefiting from the people who do." Learn more about how this project will transform transportation around the country here: https://lnkd.in/eFRr5NNV #News #transportation #highspeedrail #Brightline #innovation
