On 27th November, Americares India, in collaboration with Institute For Psychological Health, Thane , organized an event on Integrating Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Primary Health Care Services. The event began with capacity building session for Americares field team on the topic ‘Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy’. This was followed by another session on MHPSS where Americares and IPH shared insights from their collaborative journey and also shared experiences from the field. The event culminated with felicitation of Americares team members, applauding their efforts to seamlessly integrate MHPSS into the regular primary healthcare services. Dr. Anand Nadkarni, Psychiatrist and Managing Trustee, IPH, and Mr. Shripad Desai, DSVP, Country Team Liaison, Americares, were the delegates present at the event. The online webinar on "Mental health interventions with Narrative Approach" on 2nd April enabled a platform for social workers, community-based practitioners and mental health professionals to come together and learn more about Mannkosh and interact with the facilitators. The discussion was initiated by Deepali Vandana, co-founder, Urja, as she shared her experiential journey of recognising the need for trauma informed interventions at the grassroots from an anti-oppressive, rights-based perspective throughout her career of 25+ years. She emphasised on the importance of stigma-free access to mental healthcare and also shared Urja's foray in strengthening Community Mental Health which led to significant impact in the ease of communication, improved relationship with survivors, and effective progress and pace of holistic interventions. We further illustrated our collaboration with Narrative Practices India Collective (NPI) for the facilitation of Mannkosh, embedded in our shared vision and value framework. Co-founders, Jill Sanghvi and Jehanzeb Baldiwala, NPI outlined the fundamentals of Narrative Practices, and their impact at the individual and community-level. This explanation provided much-needed clarity for attendees who were eager to learn more about the course's content. The session concluded by delving into the details of the diploma course, beginning with the story behind the title, and thoroughly covering the program's structure. Through this conversation, we hoped to offer a glimpse of Mannkosh and demonstrate the implementation of Narrative Practices at the grassroots level. The Live Love Laugh Foundation Kiran Mazumdar Shaw indeed there's a huge gap in the need and availability of services. The sad part however is 1) the lack of concern for mental well-being or providing safe psychological space for employees in the corporate sector 2) the fake counselor/ psychologist industry that is blooming in our country, because public is unaware and fall in the hands of unqualified Counselors. 3) Mental health care I'd not for those loving with a diagnosis, but for all high functioning people who are internally struggling with, their mindset, or fears, or competition , relationship issues, etc. It is for Everyone! Therefore, we need mental health advocacy, care, presence and availability of qualified professionals at each organization. There's a lot at stake. My two cents.
