"Can't we sit at one table and have a discussion?" This is something leaders ask me all the time. We could, but here's why we shouldn't: 1. The larger the group, the more positioning and politicking. 2. It's easier for one person to derail the entire discussion. 3. It results in one person sharing one idea at a time. 4. Most people at the table won't speak at all. 5. It's so easy to break into small groups. Do this instead: 1. Identify the problem you are trying to solve as a team. 2. Break the room into small groups of 4-5 people. 3. Give them 10 minutes to identify solutions. 4. Ask them to give a 90 sec presentation. 5. Document and display solutions.
