For the first time in over 50 years, a non- water cooled reactor has successfully completed the testing process and received authorisation from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The reactor will use molten fluoride salt as a coolant and is considered a safer and more efficient reactor than a traditional water cooled reactor.
