🔋 ⚡ Blended electrodes can be custom-designed for specific applications if synergistic effects are well understood. In our latest study, Dimitrios Chatzogiannakis (Destiny PhD Programme MSCA COFUND PhD) looks into charge transfer dynamics in blended electrodes. We show how current distribution between blend components is influenced by their individual voltage profiles and varies across SoC. And we also captured the "buffer effect" (charge exchange between components during relaxation) in operando XRD experiments conducted at ALBA Synchrotron! In collaboration with M.Rosa Palacin (INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC)) and Umicore.

Thermochemical energy storage is an excellent way of capturing industrial #wasteheat. Scientists at Technische Universität Wien have developed a fully reversible, highly efficient #thermochemical energy storage technology with high cycle stability. In this system, two #microfluidic channel networks allow the controlled storage and release of the collected thermal energy. Compared to existing systems, the microfluidic approach offers a significantly higher ratio of energy storage to volume. Thanks to their modular design, the #microreactors can be easily adapted to an existing infrastructure and scaled to the respective requirements. The high storage density and arbitrary scalability of the presented thermochemical energy storage system make this microfluidic #thermochemical energy reactor a promising solution for industrial applications. We’re thrilled to announce a new addition to our resource library! A groundbreaking study on aqueous zinc metal batteries (AZMB), recently published in Advanced Energy Materials, is now featured on our website. This study explores a promising alternative to traditional lithium-ion batteries, which is crucial for the evolution of safer, more sustainable energy storage solutions. Main Takeaways from the Study: 1. Introduction of a Novel Additive: The research introduces a tetraalkylsulfonamide (TAS) additive that effectively combats common issues in AZMBs such as dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and ZnO passivation. 2. Innovative Mechanisms: TAS works by displacing water molecules from the Zn²⁺ solvation shell, altering its solvation matrix, and disrupting the hydrogen bond network, as shown through advanced spectroscopic and theoretical methods. 3. Enhanced Battery Life: The addition of TAS leads to a remarkable improvement in cycle life — increasing from about 100 hours to over 2500 hours, a 25-fold increase. How This Relates to Spectro Inlets Products: Our microchip-based mass spectrometry technology is at the forefront of analyzing and understanding such complex chemical interactions at the nano-scale. Last week, Dr. Amandine Guissart, our esteemed expert in plasma technology, delivered an insightful presentation on 'Microwave Plasma Sources for Sustainable Applications" at Fraunhofer IWKS during the second International Conference on Resource Chemistry (ICRC). We're very proud to have Dr. Guissart representing us with her expertise and insights, reaffirming our commitment to pioneering advancements in industrial microwave and plasma technology. 🚀 #Microwave #plasma sources are designed to generate a contact-free plasma while ensuring stable operation for a wide parameter range of gas-types, gas flow and microwave power at 2.45 GHz and 915 MHz. Thanks to the reached high plasma temperature, these sources are well suited for both, the synthesis of special gases and for supporting chemical reactions with highly reactive gas species. This is the key for a wide range of industrial applications, such as #PowerToX and, in particular, Power-to-Gas and Power-to Chemicals. Moreover, microwave plasma systems offer the best alternative to build decentralized supply networks with #CO2 -neutral #hydrogen-based fuel gases. Such gases can in turn be employed for energy storage or for direct and location-independent use. Power-to-X technologies based on microwave plasma processes are then innovative solutions to convert surplus electrical energy from #renewable sources into material resources such as hydrogen, #carbon monoxide, and synthetic gases for storage and recycling, e.g., conversion of electrical energy into gaseous or liquid fuels or chemicals for long-haul trucking, shipping and aviation. 👉 Contact us for more information: info@muegge.de
