Local Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (LEIS) is a powerful technique for studying localized corrosion phenomena like pitting and crevice corrosion. By measuring impedance at specific points on a surface, it provides insights into electrochemical behavior. LEIS's sensitivity and depth profiling capabilities make it ideal for assessing coatings in corrosive environments. In an application by the Zhao and Yang groups at the Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology, LEIS was used to demonstrate the effectiveness of micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and nano-SiO2/MAO composite coatings in protecting aluminum alloys from corrosion. This application note highlights their findings, showcasing LEIS's potential in corrosion protection and battery technology research.
