#TuesdayTips Now IN! Part 3 - Material and Finish 20 Furniture Tips to Watch for 2024 Suzanne Ennis Houzz Contributor put together a list of 20 Furniture Tips to Watch for 2024. Consider these initial suggestions as a starting point, yet the potential is boundless when you join forces with the MGB Team and your selected interior designer. 💭💡🤝 1. Metallic moments. Among the trends that emerged in spring and were in full force this fall was the use of gold, brass and other warm metallic finishes across furnishings categories. Warm metallics also showed up in wall coverings, giving a little gleam to wood veneers and paper weaves. Dark metallics like iron, on the other hand, usually looked hand-forged and matte. 2. Stunning stone. Heavy, monolithic stone continues to be a dominant material, especially for occasional tables. But colorful marbles — and convincing facsimiles have largely replaced cool white Carrara as the marbles. Beige-toned travertine complements the season’s warm neutral palettes, so it’s also on the rise. 3. Hides and seek. Whereas leather works in any design style, hair-on-hide leather has usually been associated with rustic decor. 4. Mostly matte. Last but not least matte black and white continue their reign over colorful, shiny lacquers (though with water’s rise as an influence, wet-looking finishes may be in our futures). Their popularity may stem in part from the fact that they serve as convenient foils against which bold colors can really pop, and they don’t distract from the form and craftsmanship of furniture pieces. 5. Details, details: Sculptural, blocky, Brutalist forms have maintained their popularity, helping to bring balance — a bit of a buzzword at the market — to the curves that took over a few seasons back. As an art consultant, a difficult question for some clients is often surrounding budget. Money-no-object, high-net-worth clients are the rare exception, rather than the rule. Most people looking to commission art glass want high value and a competitive price. But the difficulty is, if we don't know the budget, how do we know where to start? How do we know which glass artist(s) to select for the project? To become a true glass master takes 20 years, almost 3 times longer than a doctor's training. The difference in price from a youngblood glass maker to a glass master can be huge. Glass commissions can range from a thousand pounds to several hundred thousand pounds, and no two are ever the same. Recent Boha commission enquiries include an art installation at a world-famous museum, a glass made with moon dust, and a replica of the crystal egg from the film Risky Business. Quite the motley crew! When you fill in an online enquiry sheet for an interior designer, if you don't fill in the budget box you often can't submit the form. An interior designer needs to know just how much luxury they can lavish on your home and being clear on budget ensures everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. I remember about 20 years ago, being in the elegant home of a very wealthy individual. His living room was beautifully decorated, with stunning, stainless steel and glass side tables and a mottled, bird's egg pattern on the walls. I complimented him on it and asked who his decorator was. He said, "Thanks, it was done by Ralph Lauren." Quality speaks for itself, you can't fake it. Whether it's a car, a watch, a house renovation, or (of course) a piece of fine art glass. You really do get what you pay for. The beautiful cut of a Savile Row or Anglo-Italian suit is something you are unlikely to see in a high-street suit shop. The price is what you pay, value is what you receive. The price of something usually equals its quality. If you are fortunate enough to commission glass art, then please provide your consultant with a clear financial brief. Enable them to deliver the most amazing art your budget will allow. Buy the best and you will only cry once! #glassartcommissions #art #glass #budget #interiordesigners #glassart #artglass #ralphlauren #savilerow #angloitalian #tailors #luxury #highnetworth
