Big day for CEPI - European Audiovisual Production Association as they publish its European Policy Vision Paper for 2025 to 2030 - A path forward for European independent producers It is an ambitious roadmap designed to champion the future of independent audiovisual production in Europe. In its Vision Paper, CEPI calls for strong European policies promoting cultural diversity, innovation, and creative excellence, enabling European independent producers to grow and innovate in a highly competitive landscape. “Independent producers are the cornerstone of Europe’s creative industry. We believe that by working together, we can ensure that Europe's audiovisual sector remains dynamic, innovative, and competitive on the global stage. This Vision Paper is a testament to our commitment to empowering independent producers and preserving Europe's cultural identity.” – Susana Gato, CEPI President. CEPI’s Vision Paper focuses on three key priorities for action: Creating a better level playing field between players of the value chain: Advocating for better regulation of dominant players, fair market access for independent producers, and fostering a diverse audiovisual market. Upholding Europe’s cultural sovereignty: Reinforcing the role of independent producers as champions of European diversity and ensuring intellectual property rights remain within the continent. Keeping independent producers at the core of social, sustainable and technical evolutions: Encouraging a supportive framework for social, technical, and sustainable progress within the audiovisual industry, including embracing and regulating AI and green production practices. Well done to Mathilde Fiquet and Margaux Chielle for all their hard work on this!

The Cinematograph Amendment Act 2023 aims to combat piracy by prohibiting unauthorized recording and exhibition of films, receiving praise for its efforts. However, it falls short in addressing the complexities of online piracy, leaving loopholes such as mirroring servers and jurisdictional challenges unresolved.
