In a recent article, EdSource describes research on immigration enforcement’s impacts on the children of undocumented parents. The policy brief by UCLA’s Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles, Center for the Transformation of Schools, and Latino Policy and Politics Institute shows that these “children between the ages of 6 and 16 are 14% more likely to repeat a grade, while those aged 14 to 17 are 18% more likely to drop out of school altogether.” Read more in the policy brief: https://lnkd.in/gyaei_uh

The Center for Survivor Agency and Justice is hosting a valuable legal roundtable to examine the landscape of economic and consumer issues facing immigrant survivors. Many immigrant survivors lack an understanding of the US credit and financial system, making them particularly vulnerable to economic abuse and coerced debt. As a result, immigrant survivors face deep economic and consumer rights needs that are in need of creative, culturally relevant advocacy. This roundtable will discuss legal and nonlegal strategies to support immigrant survivors.

We fight to keep families united. Managing Attorney Karina Ramos was assigned two siblings in our Children's Representation Program. During the process she discovered their older sister, who had entered the United States with their mother, did not have an attorney either. She asked Director of Legal Services Mickey Donavan-Kaloust an all-too-familiar question at ImmDef: 'Mickey, please can we represent ALL siblings?' This one meaningful act resulted in predicate orders for the three siblings which is a major step forward toward legal status. #NoImmigrantStandsAlone #LegalAdvocacy #FamilyReunification #ChildrensRights #ImmigrantsRights #FamilyFirst #Immigration #immigrationlawyer #Immigrant #justiceforall #Dueprocess #Congrats #Felicidades #KeepFamiliesTogether

Thrilled to share a recent victory for one of my clients! After being detained at the point of entry due to alleged sham marriage suspicions, I successfully secured an immigration bail grant. Despite challenges like age difference and minor interview inconsistencies, perseverance and strategic advocacy prevailed. Proud to stand by my client's side through this journey. #ImmigrationLaw #LegalVictory"

CBABC is hosting a webinar on the gendered aspects of legal aid later this week. Learn about how empirical research has found that legal aid eligibility thresholds lead to disproportionate ineligibility of single women who are in poverty, compared to other specific groups, as well as about the application of Canada’s legal framework for equality and what both suggest in terms of program design and population-based access to justice. https://lnkd.in/gHvwfBZC
