From Amira's Visit to Good Day Sacramento: Children today are struggling to learn to read. A staggering two-thirds are not proficient, and nationwide teacher shortages have left 55,000 K-12 classrooms without certified educators. The “summer slide” coupled with literacy gaps exacerbated by COVID have cast a light on the literacy crisis in our country. This weekend our CEO, Mark Angel sat down with Tina Macahu at CBS News’ Good Day Sacramento to discuss Amira’s important work with three Sacramento School Districts - Natomas, Sacramento City, and Twin Rivers - that have incorporated Amira into their literacy programs this summer. https://lnkd.in/gPyrPAcc Grounded in the Science of Reading and built using powerful AI, Amira has helped over 2 million students, across 15 countries and 5 continents with reading. I'm excited to be at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill for Educators for Excellence's event briefing the findings of their Voices from the Classroom Survey, a report featuring insight from a nationally representative sample of more than 1,000 educators. Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) kicked things off with a call to continue investing in schools and teachers. Among the report findings: 1) 46% report the profession should be collaborative and enable teachers to learn from one another; 2) 50% favor the idea of team teaching; 3) Only 42% are satisfied with efforts to provide high-quality professional development; 4) Just 25% of teachers in districts that have adopted new curricular materials aligned to science of reading believe instructional practice has shifted as a result; 5) 17% of teachers are already confidently using AI, and 2/3 state that they need additional training and support. #TeacherSurvey https://lnkd.in/e7dQcAY3

Today turned out to be one of those fortunate days where I found myself at home, and guess what? It happened to be my son Anay's last day at school before the summer break. As soon as he saw me, he was bubbling with excitement, eager to recount every detail of his final day. But amidst his chatter, a thought clouded his joy - the looming guilt that while he basked in holiday glory, his poor teachers were stuck at school, drowning in paperwork. To lift his spirits, I tossed out a wild notion: "Hey, what if your teachers had super-smart AI helpers to tackle all that grading and organising?" His eyes sparked with intrigue, and in no time, he was off in a flurry of imagination, envisioning a future where AI ruled the school smoothly. In Anay's world, forget about those pesky ID cards - iris scanners would do the trick, effortlessly tracking attendance and absences. And as for those dreaded mischief-makers? No more scapegoating under the watchful eye of AI. Teachers could swap roll calls for rousing discussions, and instead of policing haircuts and nail lengths, they'd focus on sparking curiosity. It's astonishing how tech-savvy these kids are these days! Back in my school days, my wildest daydreams involved flooded bridges granting a spontaneous day off at school. Oh, how times have changed! #TechSavvyKids #FutureOfEducation #AIinSchools #InnovativeIdeas #ParentingJourney #SchoolDays #ChangingTimes

Some might ask why SCOTs will consult for classes outside of their respective majors. Here is the answer: Consultants outside the discipline of the requesting faculty member provide un-biased perspectives and contributions as observers and collaborators. Minimal course-related knowledge from the SCOT enhances a focus on data collection rather than course content, where necessary. Helping school leaders improve instructional practice and student outcomes. Strategic Marketing Executive | Digital Product and Brand Strategist | Communications, Demand Generation and Business Development Expert
According to CNBC, "The percentage of K-12 students and teachers who say they are using AI and approve of it has risen sharply over the past year, according to a new poll conducted by Impact Research for the Walton Family Foundation." The poll found almost half of U.S. teachers and K-12 students say they are using ChatGPT weekly, while just 20% of students say they're using it weekly. Source: https://lnkd.in/e4s6tEX5 But how are they using it and is that use aligned to and/or advancing the instructional vision of their schools? Those are some of the questions Leading Educators and The Learning Accelerator seek to answer by assembling the inaugural School Teams AI Collaborative cohort. This new year-long pilot will equip school-based teams to be at the forefront of developing schoolwide best practices for AI-enabled instruction that expand possibilities for teaching and learning amid society’s next era of digital transformation. Together, you and other cohort members will gain access to common learning and development from industry leaders, investigate new applications for AI in the classroom, and collectively build a hub of resources and guidance for other educators around the world.
