The call for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza must come with an equally urgent call for the release of all hostages held by Hamas. It's essential to empathize and consider if our own loved ones were kidnapped. We must also acknowledge the realities on the ground: 1. Gaza has been self-governing since the Israeli disengagement in 2005. 2. Most Arab residents in the West Bank have autonomy under the Palestinian Authority. 3. Within Israel, Arab citizens have equal rights under the law and participate in a democratic process. While recognizing these points, which demonstrate that the slogan "FreePalestine" is irrelevant and even misleading, the overarching goal remains clear: to end the conflict. We urge demonstrations for the release of hostages, reflecting the same urgency we would demand if our family were imperiled. It's a natural response for any nation to defend its citizens and seek the safe return of those taken.
