The Steel Manufacturers Association today sent the transition team of President-elect Donald J. Trump a five-point plan for executive and legislative action that would strengthen manufacturing in the United States, promote job growth and capitalize on America’s carbon advantage. The SMA urges the incoming administration to take quick action in five areas: --Strengthen tariffs to support domestic manufacturing. --Stand up to unfair trade practices. --Stop regulatory overreach. --Advance pro-growth tax policy. --Monetize America’s environmental advantage. In a seminal development for Wisconsin's economy, manufacturing has begun returning home - EVANSVILLE – Standing alone on the floor of the once-humming Stoughton Trailers factory, company president Bob Wahlin assessed his mothballed machinery. Nearly all the lights were off in the 330,000-square-foot plant, located on the eastern edge of town, just off U.S. Highway 14 between Madison and Janesville. It was, Wahlin said, "pretty depressing." A coalition of U.S. trailer manufacturers, including Stoughton, had prevailed in their complaint that Chinese companies were selling trailer chassis in the United States for below the actual cost of making them, a trade violation known as dumping, that unfairly harms competitors. Soon, import tariffs of more than 200% would be levied on those Chinese trailers, which are used to haul ocean-cargo containers on American highways. Sales would swing back to the U.S. manufacturers, supporting thousands of jobs in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Alabama and Texas. https://lnkd.in/g8nHQ4HJ #Manufacturing #Wisconsin #usmanufacturers

Another insightful post from Harry Moser on reshoring to the US and the growth of our manufacturing sector A few data points jumped out at me from his first of a five-part series: 🔸In the nearly 45 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀, manufacturers have struggled to regain their prominence. Donald Trump has revealed the most aggressive side of his economic agenda yet, saying he will take manufacturing jobs from foreign countries, including China and U.S. allies, if he wins the election in November. Speaking at a meeting in Savannah, Georgia, Trump offered tax and other incentives to encourage companies to relocate to the United States. Trump promised a ‘manufacturing renaissance’ as the centrepiece of his economic plan and said he would entice foreign companies with low taxes and minimal regulation. The Republican presidential candidate had earlier threatened John Deere with 200% import tariffs if the company goes ahead with its planned move to shift a part of its manufacturing facilities to Mexico. #ManufacturingRenaissance #EconomicAgenda #BringJobsBack #AmericaFirst #USManufacturing #tradepolicy #savannahgeorgia #taxincentives #MinimalRegulation #johndeere #ImportTariffs #jobsinamerica #TrumpEconomics #election2024 Watch: https://lnkd.in/gpskGVgV

To Canadian federal lawmakers: The proposed 25% tariff on Canadian imports threatens to devastate cross-border industries like ours, disrupt global supply chains, and jeopardize jobs. Here’s why we need urgent action. An Open Letter to Canadian Federal Lawmakers At Redfab Inc., we proudly manufacture aerospace tags, covers, and lockout tags, contributing to the global aerospace supply chain. Although our products are made in Canada, 95% of the materials we use come from the United States—fabric from California, grommets from Florida, and a recently purchased $250,000 U.S.-built printer to support an upcoming contract with a major OEM aircraft manufacturer. Our work is critical to the global aerospace supply chain. We supply parts to a U.S. company that integrates them into assemblies for a major European aircraft manufacturer. This deep interdependence drives innovation and creates jobs in both Canada and the U.S. Redfab is proud to be one of only several Canadian members of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), where we contribute to modernizing aerospace standards. This work is essential to maintaining safety and efficiency across the global sector and highlights Canada’s important role in international aerospace collaboration. While we’re taking steps to mitigate risks—such as joining an aerospace delegation to Australia and New Zealand in March to expand our market reach—the proposed tariff would significantly weaken our ability to compete internationally. A 25% increase in costs would make our products uncompetitive, disrupt supply chains, and force layoffs for half our workforce. I urge federal lawmakers to advocate for an exemption for Canadian products made with U.S. components. Preserving cross-border trade is critical to the aerospace industry’s future and to the broader Canada-U.S. economic partnership. This isn’t just about Redfab; it’s about protecting the future of an industry built on cooperation, innovation, and shared prosperity. Let’s work together to ensure Canadian manufacturers can thrive in a competitive global market. #AerospaceIndustry #TradePolicy #CanadaUSRelations #GlobalSupplyChain #AerospaceManufacturing #Tariffs #CrossBorderTrade #ManufacturingInnovation #EconomicPartnership Justin Trudeau John Brassard Pierre Poilievre Adam Chambers
