It can occur at any age but 90% of the cases occur in women above 40 years old If not diagnosed early, this type of cancer might lead to devastating illness and even death. The theme for this year's World Ovarian Cancer day is 'No woman left behind' which speaks to the importance of raising awareness of Ovarian Cancer across race, social and economic boundaries and age. Knowing the signs and symptoms will lead to seeking medical attention early and early diagnosis. The symptoms include but are not limited to; 1) Abdominal pain 2) Abdominal distension. 3) Bloating 4) Pelvic pain 5) Urinary symptoms such as urgency 6) Fatigue (extreme tiredness) 7) Back pain 8) Pain during sex 9) Constipation 10) Changes in a woman's period, such as heavier bleeding than normal or irregular bleeding weight loss It is important to note however that some cases might not have any symptoms at all. Cervical cancer is a silent yet serious threat that every woman should be aware of. It’s important to stay vigilant and recognize the symptoms that could signal the onset of this condition. Key warning signs include abnormal vaginal bleeding, such as bleeding between periods or after menopause, and pelvic pain or discomfort. Unexplained weight loss and unusual vaginal discharge are also common indicators. Pain or bleeding beyond menopause should not be ignored either. If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s crucial to take immediate action. Visit your gynecologist for a professional evaluation and get a Pap smear test, which can detect early abnormalities in the cervix. At Andromeda Cancer Hospital, we emphasize the importance of early detection in successful treatment. Stay proactive about your health and make regular check-ups a priority.
