7:08pm "Hey are you busy? The sound system isn't working. Could you call me?" Last night I got a text - a local theatre where I had provided some AV support earlier this year was having issues with their installed sound system. They weren't getting any audio, and it's tech week, and that's a problem. Some phone diagnosis revealed their DSP had died. It was an older model with a factory-acknowledged power supply issue, so not a shock, but bad timing during tech week. Knowing what the issue was, I called in a favor with a friend who had a spare unit of the same model with a refurbished power supply (and who happened to still be at their shop) and after a rendevouz to grab the replacement unit, I was at the theatre by 9:30pm, and had the DSP installed and re-programmed by 10:30pm. Now, I'm not a system integrator and installed sound isn't my usual gig, but solving show-stopping problems for live events and entertainment professionals IS my forte. In the last month I've flown to the east coast to provide an emergency consult for a tech company's all-hands space, provided last-minute captioning for a university graduation with less than 24 hours notice, sourced backline for a headline musical performance with 48 hours notice, and fixed the audio system at this theatre, along with lots of regularly scheduled production work. From all of this, I can say with certainty that the biggest asset in production problem solving is having a community of people who will answer the phone when you need help. My friends at Big Idea Theatre called me last night because they had a problem they thought I could help them solve. I was able to diagnose the issue from experience, but I was only able to solve it because of my network. Production is a wild, fast paced, and unpredictable industry. We rely on trust and community to get things done. I don't take for granted any of the many people in my life who will answer the phone when I call, ready to jump into action. I hope they do that because they know that when they call, I'll do the same for them. Image Description: A close up photo of a small equipment rack sitting on a table. The rack has an amplifier, a DSP, and a wireless microphone reciever in it. On top of the rack is a small mixer with a cable coiled on top of the rack, and next to the mixer is a case for the microphone transmitter. in the background several cables run up the back wall of the tech booth.

Like #touring or #recording in the studio (or bedroom), #livestreaming requires 'stuff.' That stuff will come in the form of computer hardware, software, musical instruments and additional tools such as audio interfaces to get great sound for your #livestreams. Music Radar has tested out several audio interfaces from brands including Mackie, Elgato, Roland and PreSonus. #StageIt is free of any endorsements or partnerships with any of these products, but we do encourage artists to take the time to investigate these and others as part of getting their best sound and performances. Whether using StageIt for ticketed livestreams (w/ fan engagement, chat, tipping, marketing services) or any #platform, as an artist/ performer you will want to have high quality set up, production and quality. Gear and equipment ('stuff') can easily become a never-ending cycle, so it is of course important to manage that in consideration for your revenue and income opportunities for your livestreaming. https://lnkd.in/eXsf9dgX #audio #audiogear #musictech #studio #recordingstudio #musicbiz #musicbusiness #musicindustry #streaming #audiovisual #Twitch #Youtube #livestreamer #musician #musicians #audiointerface

With the kick off of the Formula One season AND the Ultra Music Festival season this month, we think it’s a good time to celebrate the similarities between our pioneering hybrid workflows - that have revolutionized sports and music broadcasting 🕺🏎️ 🏁 🇬🇧🇳🇱 Remote Master Control Room: F1 in London, Ultra in Amsterdam - Directors and producers curate the broadcast - Replay operators - for those big moments the host wants to talk about - Remote editors - for fast turnaround items - Dynamic graphics operators - Multiple redundancies in case of any technical failure 🌎 On site technical team: Multiple countries throughout the season! - Cinematic cameras and ambiance microphones strategically placed around the track/ stages - 'Onboard' cams to get up close and personal with the drivers and DJ's during their sets 😏 Constantly innovating our workflows. For Ultra Miami this weekend we are: - Remotely switching two music stages as well as curating the Ultra Live broadcast covering five stages - Remotely mixing the audio of three music stages to ensure top-notch switching, mixing and engagement - Remotely controlling some cameras in Miami from Amsterdam, 7500 KM away! - Having less footprint on-site and reducing environmental impact ✔️ #NOMOBO #Ultralive2024 #remoteworkflow #FormulaOne
