The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a Transmission Interconnection Roadmap, highlighting the critical role of grid modernization in achieving a cleaner, more resilient energy future. This roadmap expands upon the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's work and outlines key strategies to streamline the interconnection process for renewable energy projects. The roadmap's focus on improving coordination among stakeholders and leveraging innovative technologies underscores the importance of collaboration and innovation in advancing our energy infrastructure. Commenters on the draft report include ENGIE North America Inc., Invenergy and National Grid. GOOD NEWS from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) DOE issues road map for speeding, improving grid interconnections to unlock 2.6-TW backlog “There is unlikely to be any document for years to come reflecting such a comprehensive set of [interconnection] solutions,” said Tyler Norris, former head of development at Cypress Creek Renewables. The U.S. Department of Energy on Wednesday issued a road map aimed at improving processes that will allow generators to connect to the grid more quickly and efficiently. In steps that go beyond the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s recent interconnection reform rule, the Transmission Interconnection Roadmap calls for considering market-based options to ration interconnection access and separate the interconnection process from making network upgrades. “This is a landmark document, most notably because it offers the strongest institutional endorsement yet for reducing reliance on the interconnection process to identify and fund deep network upgrades, and to consider options for delinking interconnection processes from network upgrade planning altogether,” said Tyler Norris, a doctoral student at Duke University and former vice president of development at Cypress Creek Renewables... https://lnkd.in/gbgq57HE

Power plant retirements, massive data center loads, and security risks are expected to strain the US power grid in the coming years, but interconnection queues are already chock full of renewable sources looking to shore up domestic power supply. At 2TW, interconnection queues are now twice the size of the current US resources. The vast majority of those queued projects are wind and solar. Read more about NERC CEO Jim Robb's report on the state of the US energy system and the future of renewable energy generation in the article below. #USPower #RenewableEnergy #Interconnection #KinectSolar

Big Boost for the U.S. Energy Grid! The Department of Energy just pumped $2.2 billion into projects across 18 states to ramp up grid capacity by 13 GW. This funding will help build new transmission lines, improve energy storage, and bring more clean energy online. Some cool projects getting the cash: ⚡ North Plains Connector will link up major U.S. grids. ⚡ California’s Grid Tech Upgrades to support more renewables. ⚡ Power Up New England with offshore wind and storage. This is a huge step toward a stronger, cleaner energy grid!👀
