🎗️ Cancer is a growing public health challenge in Ethiopia, with over 60,000 new cases annually. The lack of specialised healthcare facilities outside Addis Ababa has forced many patients to travel long distances, often arriving at hospitals in advanced stages of the disease. In response, Amref Health Africa, in partnership with key stakeholders, has launched a groundbreaking initiative in Afar. We’ve established the first-ever cancer treatment and research centre in the region, bringing life-saving chemotherapy services closer to home. This centre represents a significant milestone in our mission to enhance healthcare access for communities across Ethiopia. With support from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, we’ve trained local healthcare professionals to ensure the safe and effective administration of chemotherapy. This initiative not only alleviates the burden on patients and their families but also strengthens the overall healthcare system in the region. We are committed to transforming cancer care in Afar and beyond. If you’re interested in partnering with us on this or other projects, reach out to us at global.communications@amref.org.
