"The Cheerleader effect," which Barney Stinson mentioned in 'How I Met Your Mother' (based on actual research), is how I describe all the AI videos being released by companies nowadays. These videos show stunning, glittering visuals for 3-5 seconds with slow camera turns and 'oh wow that amazing lighting!' (what in the world will humanity do without that gorgeous lighting). When put together, they create a sense that everything is perfect and grand. It's hypnotic and captures you like a fly. But if you take out each shot and remove the camera turn, what do you see? You'll notice the eyes and lips are mismatched, the liquid filling up looks unnatural, the house's center of gravity is off, the gun is held incorrectly, and the camera moves faster than the person, making him glide awkwardly Yes I know, AI isn't perfect and still has a long way to go before producing the correct visuals. The point isn't to criticize AI but to look at the direction it's taking. It's all about aesthetics – glow, shine, contrast, and bright colors with flashy cinematography. There's no focus on accurate physics, environments or human anatomy. Maybe it's time to change the direction and create videos that are accurate, even if they're not the brightest. There's nothing wrong with a low-light setting if it's correct. Why start with videos where saturation and contrast are cranked up to 100?

It's the "look it's perfect AND created by a machine" agenda with AI that gets me. If we just take a step back and acknowledge that learning is a process of slowing down and taking it one step at a time, yes, even for a machine, then we don't need to force this narrative of "oh look how shiny" while hiding the imperfections. I always enjoy your musings on AI and art and find myself coming back to read your thoughts.

I’m wondering what midjourneys home grown video gen will look like. Their town halls “say” it will be done the right way. Unsure of what they mean there but certainly oversat and clever lighting will only temperpratily amuse the public and won’t be sustainable.
