Millions of Americans face barriers to accessing rooftop solar—whether they rent, live in shared housing, or have rooftops that just aren’t suitable. For too long, this has left a huge segment of the population out of the #cleanenergy transition. That’s where community solar comes in. By offering shared access to solar power, we’re helping renters, homeowners, and businesses enjoy the benefits of clean, affordable energy. At AMS Renewable Energy, we’re proud to be part of the solution—bringing renewable power to communities everywhere. Community solar is rapidly expanding, filling a critical gap in the clean energy transition by providing renewable energy access to those without the option of rooftop solar. This piece highlights the growing importance of community solar in building a more inclusive and sustainable energy future. At AC Power, we’re proud to contribute to this movement by developing community solar projects on brownfields and other underutilized sites. These projects not only generate clean energy but also repurpose challenging spaces into productive assets for local communities. Utilities vs. Clean Energy: An Ongoing Battle The shift to clean energy often meets resistance from traditional utilities, which see renewable energy as a threat to their profits. Fairfax County, Virginia, provides a clear example. The county's plan to install rooftop #solar on public buildings aimed to generate 45 megawatts of clean power and save $60 million over 25 years by reducing payments to Dominion Energy. Dominion, like many utilities, opposed the plan, arguing it would lead to higher rates for other customers "because the $60 million the county saves will have to be made up somehow". In 2022, they imposed costly barriers by requiring expensive upgrades for connecting solar projects to the grid, increasing project costs by 20-40%. This highlights the broader challenge: utilities frequently resist #cleanenergy projects that cut into their sales and #profits. #cleanenergytransition #savemoney #nxtgen Beenish Mehar Michelle (Felix) Eckhart Derrik VanLaere Johdi A. This type of corporate behavior is frustrating. While this specific example is in the US, it seems clear to me that countries like Australia (and no doubt many others across the globe) are already and will certainly see an increase in the future of the conflict of interests that older existing energy providers have when compared to new innovative and energy efficient players that aim to deliver to the market cost effective and greener alternatives.

I believe banks and state regulators need to step in. Anti-competitive "roadblocks" have to be discouraged with higher interest rates on loans and legislated rules that ensure cost effective connection to the grid. When the free market fails the people, then exceptional measures are required to ensure the energy transition proceeds unimpeded. #freemarket #failure #abuse #of #power #anticompetitive #practice #roadblock #selfinterest #corporate #blindspot

Did you know that homes and businesses can access #solarenergy without having their own panels? One of the many ways MN8 Energy is advancing clean energy is through #communitysolar projects, an approach that allows multiple individuals and businesses to benefit from a single, shared solar farm. Mostly located off-site, this innovative model provides plenty of advantages without the need for individual solar panel installations. Some of the biggest benefits of community solar: 💸 Costs Savings: In most cases, community solar projects result in reduced electricity bills without the upfront investment of solar panels – providing affordable access to clean energy. 🍃 Environmental Impact: Clean energy is better for the environment than gas and fuel – implementing community solar reduces reliance on other energy alternatives that harm the environment. 🔋 Energy Independence: Community solar to diversify energy sources and reduce reliance on utility companies – making communities less vulnerable to energy price fluctuations and disruptions. 🗝️ Inclusive Access: Community solar allows everyone – from renter to business owner – to have access to solar energy. Utilities benefit from our Hybrid Inverter / Battery solutions due to lower base and peak loads. Opposing modern energy solutions is just absurd. That is why we often tell clients to not join a grid feed scheme and opt for independence. When do you plan your energy independence? #gosolar #renewables #hybrid #solarnow

Utility-scale solar installations are popping up nationwide, but experts say the future of solar could rest on more localized projects. Community-scale solar makes renewable energy accessible to homeowners and businesses without hassles - they only subscribe and save. Beyond energy cost savings, community solar improves grid systems, adds local jobs in rural areas, and encourages brownfield development. #CommunityScaleSolar #RenewableEnergy #SolarEnergy
