Today is the start of a major rebrand, transitioning The Scope's parent group Ambulatory Management Solutions to Ambulatory Anesthesia Care.
The Scope launched as a platform for Ambulatory Management Solutions to offer reliable guidance and industry leadership for surgeons practicing outside of hospitals, as well as surgeons considering moving to outpatient settings. With each post, we've sought to explore the potential for these specialists and how they can (and should!) set high expectations from their anesthesia partners.

The pelvic floor muscle terminology document is a huge help to guide the terms to use in communications with colleagues, referrers and other specialists. Completing this short survey can help the ICS understand how this terminology document is used in clinical practice and teaching.

Homecare services should always involve the whole pharmacy workforce.
We have a huge responsibility to look after our patients, so pharmacists need to learn more about this sector of the industry.
Moving forward, they are going to play a wider role in the future of homecare.
Community pharmacy-based services – providing treatments such as injections, or administering medications – offer convenient solutions for patients who would ordinarily have had to visit a hospital or GP surgery.
Working regularly within the homecare sector in this way gives pharmacists a chance to expand their knowledge and develop expertise in a wider range of healthcare options.
We can apply our medical knowledge to improve patients’ lives – whether through clinical screening of prescriptions, to make sure they’re appropriate, or providing sound medical advice and guidance when needed.
By doing this we are not only helping, but developing our career pathways too.
The more we learn, the more everyone benefits.

How does the Muve program help providers and ASCs enhance patient experiences and outcomes? ➡ It all starts with our Nurse Navigators.
Nurse Navigators serve as a clinical guide and go-to resource for patients from surgery preparation through the first year of recovery. They provide an advanced level of support and education to ensure patients remain actively engaged throughout their care journey. Plus, they help to identify potential risks or complications early on, allowing for timely interventions and risk mitigation efforts.
In addition to providing patient support, our Nurse Navigators also collect data across the entire episode of care. This data provides valuable insights into individual and collective patient outcomes, enabling surgeons, ASCs, and the program to make data-driven decisions while maintaining the highest quality of care.
Reach out to learn more about how our #Muve program can help enhance experiences and outcomes for patients at your ASC: https://bit.ly/4aUFKYB.

Confused about the difference between a nursing home and a short term rehabilitation center? Let's break it down!
Nursing homes provide long term care services, while short term rehabilitation centers offer specialized therapy and medical care to help individuals recover from surgery, injury, illness, and more.
Remember, the best option depends on individual needs and goals. If unsure, consult with healthcare professionals to determine the right choice.

It's time to get surgical supply utilization right, without the need to compensate for flawed technology with post surgery documentation, reviews and reconciliation.
That was the key message from my presentation at AORN 3302 Eastern NY's "Cabin Fever" event in Latham on Saturday.
I want to thank the chapter for inviting us to present at the educational event. It was such a pleasure to meet so many dedicated and professional perioperative nurses.
During the event we looked at the fundamental data that needs to be in place in order to properly manage a product recall, and we discussed how achieving full consumption data at the point of care is a key element of patient safety.
We know that traditional systems often let nurses down, diverting them into a manual workaround which can impact data quality, leaving errors and omissions in the patient records.
It's always good to showcase new technology to nurses who understand the limitations of existing systems.
We demonstrated how quick and easy it is to capture full product data using a new computer vision sensor powered by AI software.
😵 3 second item capture always creates a 'wow' moment!
Technology is always evolving and new image recognition and AI technology has finally transformed a once error-prone process into a 3 second task. Yes really!
It's time to discover Snap&Go.
Come join the image-to-data revolution.

How does working exclusively with a surgical hospital benefit the patient?
In our circumstance, the patient benefits in a few ways. First and foremost, through the care they receive. Having a hospital that is physician owned, allows us to be aligned with our values. Red Carpet, Whole Health Orthopedic Institute and Edgewood Surgical Hospital all have one thing in common: our main priority is our patient care. Edgewood is a patient-focused, education based, close to home surgical hospital, just like we are.
Our concierge patients love Edgewood because it feels like an extension of Whole Health and Red Carpet. We are all on the same page as a staff which makes patient experience seamless between locations and offices. As a concierge patient, you stay at the beautiful Grand Resort before, during and after surgery, which is less than twenty minutes from the surgical hospital. Convenience is key when you are recovering from surgery.
Lastly, the administration is crucial. As a physician owned surgical hospital, you have education, experienced and detailed administrators making decisions about the hospital. Voices are heard, facts are presented, and patients are always first. It makes a difference.

Aldrete Score:
🎯 After a surgery or procedure where sedation or medication is administered, a healthcare provider has to determine a patients readiness to go home or back to their inpatient room assignment.
🎯 The Aldrete score is a system used to determine the readiness of post-anesthesia patients for discharge from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) to a second-stage recovery area, inpatient hospital room, or home.
🎯 The Aldrete score consists of five criteria, each of which is assigned a rating of 0, 1, or 2 based on the patient's status.
The criteria includes:
☑ Activity- able to ambulate
☑ Respiration- breathing normally and independently
☑ Circulation- Blood pressure back to baseline range (pressures before the procedure)
☑ Consciousness- awake
☑ Oxygen saturation- maintaining oxygenation above 92% on room air, or back to baseline
✅ A score of 9 or higher is generally required for discharge from the PACU.
The Aldrete score has been widely used in clinical practice and research as a tool to evaluate post-anesthesia patients. However, there are concerns about its validity and reliability, particularly when used as the sole criteria for discharge.
Clinical judgement and comparison of patients before procedure activity is crucial in determining the readiness to be discharged.
