We want to highlight our amazing student managers for this NEOSVF semester. First up, Bharath Reddy A R! Bharath is an international student from India. He is in his third year at the University of Akron, pursuing a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering. Why NEOSVF? What do you hope to learn from it this semester? I want to gain insights into how emerging tech-based startups validate their product-market fit, develop prototypes, and manage risks on their path to commercialization. Additionally, I'm interested in understanding how they secure investments to advance to higher technology readiness levels. This is my second year in NEOSVF, and this year I hold the position of President for the University of Akron chapter. Our chapter is a diverse mix of dedicated students from the engineering, law, and business schools. What are your career aspirations? At this stage, I would like to secure a position in growth-oriented startups that are involved in the battery or 3D printing industries. I am particularly interested in environments where a STEM-oriented entrepreneurial mindset can be a driving force behind the commercialization ventures. #entrepreneurship #venturecapital #startups #commercialization

A camera that uses AI to only takes photos when your eyes are closed. The Terrible Ideas Hackathon is fast becoming our favourite way to help people experience the magic of entrepreneurship. In our 2024 Terrible Ideas Hackathon over 100 students spent a manic 48 hours using the Michael Crouch Innovation Centre Makerspace (think laser cutters, 3D printers and soldering) to bring their absurd ideas to life. There is always a better way to do things, and sometimes to get there you have to first try a much worse way! What I love about this hackathon is that it lowers the barrier to starting all the way to the floor - everyone has at least one terrible new idea! It teaches people the value of starting and shipping a first prototype, even if your idea isn't perfect. Special thanks to Hayden Moore, Hamish McFarlane, Matt Macdonald, Nina Juhl and the whole team for making this such a fun and engaging experience for the UNSW Founders community! #entrepreneurship

MEETING YOUTH MAKERS: Transform Students' Mindset by a Visit with Young Inventors. What if the professionals visiting your classroom were not decades into their careers, but rather students themselves? Introducing young inventors as role models can profoundly shift students' perceptions, demonstrating that impactful innovation isn't reserved for adults but rather, kids can create meaningful change now, just as they are. At 3DuxDesign, we are sparking that “aha!” moment for students, showing them that they don’t have to wait to adulthood to start innovating. Our new "Meet the Maker" series lets kids connect with peers like Ayana and Ethan—the young inventors who turned a big idea into real achievement while still in high school. During the live Zoom session, students hear about the real-life challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship, everything from prototyping and testing a product to manufacturing dilemmas, social media marketing to closing sales. Then students roll up their sleeves and dig into the innovation process with a host-led "Design Sprint," using the 3DuxDesign patented cardboard modeling system. The MEET THE MAKER WORKSHOP empowers students with a real example of youthful innovation that could redefine your students' views on their capabilities and futures. https://lnkd.in/e-8yZJ-C How might meeting a peer who is an inventor inspire your students to start their entrepreneurial journey now?

I am thrilled to share that I had the opportunity to participate in CodeSprint 8, the largest inter-university startup battle! 🏆 Organized by the IEEE Student Branch of IIT, in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of IIT and the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of IIT, this event brought together talented minds from various universities. It was an incredible experience to collaborate, innovate, and showcase our startup ideas. 🌟 Along with my amazing team members, Rushdi Mohideen, Uzama Zain, Mohamed Haroon, we presented our proposal, Eon, in the software-based product category. Eon is a machine learning-based energy consumption optimization system designed for buildings. 🏢💡 It leverages historical energy usage data, weather conditions, occupancy patterns, and building characteristics to identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and optimize energy consumption. The goal of Eon is to maximize operational effectiveness and occupant comfort while consuming the least amount of energy. By addressing sustainability issues, cutting operating expenses, and lessening environmental impact, our solution aims to provide significant value to building owners, facility managers, energy consultants, and sustainability professionals. 🌍💚 Special thanks to the organizers and everyone who contributed to making this an unforgettable experience. 🙏 #Innovation #Startup #IEEE #CodeSprint8 #Teamwork #Entrepreneurship #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability

I watched a mesmerizing talk from https://lnkd.in/eH-_68N8 at TEDxMIT weekend on #SustainableDevelopment. The world is changing and we need to use #innovation to solve humanity's problems. But it can't just be about resources and social justice, it must also include ECONOMIC sustainability. Today being #EarthDay, let's commit to wrapping sustainable VENTURES around great ideas - otherwise any outcome will be at the mercy of politics, power, and wealth. https://ow.ly/bs0B50RkL3Q https://ow.ly/Q1Vr50Rgmvs #fractionalcto #cto #startup #startupsuccess #startupfounder #innovation

Insightful read on the innovation happening in engineering education. It’s incredible to see how universities are adapting their curricula to better prepare students for the demands of modern engineering. Reflecting on my own experiences, there were times when I wished I’d had access to more hands-on projects during my studies. It turns out, many students feel the same way. The shift towards integrating practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge is a lesson that resonates deeply. This article highlights that it’s not just about what students learn, but how they learn it. Engaging them in real-world problems enhances their critical thinking and equips them for the workforce. This is something we should all advocate for in our educational systems. What innovative changes have you noticed in engineering education, or any field for that matter? https://lnkd.in/eCnpbpsC
