Let’s talk about the current climate for sales hiring within SaaS and cyber.. 🔈 Companies hiring in this market are looking for the best of the best, understandably. A-players only. But what does that mean? Typically, there are a number of factors coming into play: ✴ Which technology they have been selling. Ideally many hiring companies want to see competitive experience, or a very close fit here to reduce ramp time. ✴ Target vertical. If the company has a sweet spot in Banking and Finance, and that is primary who they sell to, they’ll look for candidates with knowledge and experience selling in that sector. Public Sector? They’ll need someone that’s been there and done that. ✴ Knowledge of the channel. This is different for different vendors, but many will want strong VAR knowledge, distribution, or CSP, MSP, MSSP, SI knowledge. Ideally, know some of the key partners they are working with already. ✴ Tenure. Candidates that can show strong tenure in different roles, and aren’t “jumpy” (this is probably a whole different post) ✴ Achievement. Naturally, a track record of achievement/over-achievement against quota. ✴ Location. Yep, it’s becoming more important again. Expect this trend to continue. ✴ References. With colleagues, partners, customers, previous managers etc. So what? Well, many of the candidates that meet ALL of the above are performing, achieving OTE and beyond, and are potentially nervous about being last into a new company during this time. What can you do to attract these candidates: ✅ Get your hiring process nailed. It needs to be a two-way process. It needs to be slick. Communication needs to be on point. The candidate needs to feel wanted, and needs to buy into the opportunity (tech, leadership, journey, investors) ✅ Ensure transparent communication on the stage of the journey, product roadmap, key successes, any current challenges, and the salary/comp structure. ✅ Offer the right comp for the person brief you’ve designed. (base, guarantee/draw, variable plan and ramp, equity) ✅ Work with a proven recruiter exclusively that has a track record in your space, is well connected, and can promote the brand positively, selling the opportunity. They should also be able to guide you on the comp above, and process. If you feel like you’ve done all this and it’s still not working, reach out to us, there might be other reasons at play. I know of great revenue leaders, those I trust, who are hiring for sales roles right now. Some are TOP Academy customers we work closely with and respect. Rather than posting jobs on here and getting hit up with a ton of DMs that I will eventually stop reading - I instead created a TOP Job Board (link in comments) This prevents any of your DMs from slipping through the cracks and not getting passed along to the hiring manager properly. It's also way for me to help without adding too much work to my plate. I'll post open positions from TOP companies, customers and sales leaders I know and trust. Account Executive's prospect, Territory Managers also prospect. Anyone carrying a quota, they prospect. Experience and industry knowledge are fine and dandy, but your sales pipeline doesn't care about your industry knowledge. Industry knowledge doesn't feed the beast. Exerting action feeds the beast. Feed the beast. Hire people who feed the beast. Or, starve.
