It’s #ThrowbackThursday, so we’re revisiting this award-winning, first-of-its-kind roundabout project from several years ago on WIS 145 in Richfield, Wisconsin. A unique system of five closely spaced #roundabouts was developed as a preferred alternative for the interchanges with I-41 and US 45. Selecting roundabouts over traditional intersections allowed the bridges over I-41 and US 45 to remain, saving millions in construction costs. Our roundabout design incorporated spiraling central islands and pavement markings, a relatively new technique in the U.S. at the time. Optera was recently engaged by Insurers to assist in a fire claim like no other we have seen. A fire in a 1 bedroomed outbuilding led to the destruction of the building and a subsequent landslip of the slope which it was cut into.    Optera cleared the site and stabilised the sandstone embankment with rock anchors and steel-reinforced geotextile matting. New retaining walls were formed for the rear of the building in a 215mm hollow block and this was subsequently waterproofed and additional drainage set behind it to prevent future damp issues.    As we entered the inclement periods of late 2023, Optera elected to manufacture the new building off-site and deliver the structure in segments which were subsequently craned into position.    By choosing this SIPs panel process, we have been able to deliver a new building in 3 months, despite the horrendous weather conditions. The new building is super insulated and thermally efficient, whilst the speed of delivery of a skeleton frame has allowed the build to progress and the building to be made watertight despite the unrelenting weather.   The owners are delighted with their new building and the site is now cleared. As we move into the spring and summer of 2024, the new building offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, and the completed build was concluded ahead of time and on budget.    #firedamage #landslip #sandstoneembankment #sips #construction #claimsmanagement #insuranceclaims #insuranceclaimspecialist
