This post about the worth of fundamental research reflects the convergence of three credible presentation found in social media this week:
1. Buffett and Gates highlight “focus” as most critical element contributing to their personal and professional success.
2. Morningstar reports on The DNA of a Warren Buffett Company (see link: https://lnkd.in/g_SbGPim )
3. Ruth Gottesman, widow of Buffett close colleague FMC’s Sandy Gottesman, donates $1B to Einstein Medical School funding all current and future students’ tuition, drawing attention to Gottesman’s research philosophy.
“Focus” is fundamental to investment success. And, in the case of Buffett and Gottesman that fundamental focus boils down to research. If there is anything one finds more scarce in professional investing than focus, it is research.
Quality fundamental due diligence research is uncommon, but it is a standard within reach of all financial professionals. To that end, in addition to Morningstar’s report on The DNA of a Warren Buffett Company, I am sharing here the research description provided by the firm’s Director of Research (see First Manhattan Co. website).
