An example of self-advocacy: There was something I needed - information. I needed to understand how the workforce development industry is evolving and the impact it is having on Tulans, and more specifically what local organizations are doing to meet the needs of youth and aspiring professionals. I've been a working professional for 10 years now, and I've learned three very important things: 1. Having confidence is the secret sauce. It is the fuel that makes me believe I can reach out to anyone regardless of title or status to share my mission. 2. The right people will be delighted to share information, resources, and their network. 3. You have to go out and get it yourself! One direct message introducing myself and offering to meet for lunch has led me to have SIX new connections in Tulsa! Here's what I want to leave you with... It may take some time to find the right people but it's up to you to keep searching! #socialcapital #ecosystembuilding

I listened today to my mentor, Michele, sharing an experience of unethical behaviors within our community that is creating false beliefs about our program. I feel really sad about this & how it's impacting both Michele and our community because this is the type of thing that is leading people to believe that none of these types of opportunities are real, that they are all scams. That said, she always sought to shed that perception. Everything she did was the result of hard work and practice — and all of it can be reproduced by those willing to put in the time that she did. So, read her books and take her trainings, but not to deify her — nothing could be further from her mission.
