I turned 27 yesterday. And here’s what I realized: I don’t celebrate myself enough. I’m always afraid that taking time to celebrate instead of focusing on what’s next will only lead to complacency. … and, ultimately, failure and regret. But all it really does? Reinforce the idea that I’ll never be “enough.” And that couldn’t be further from the truth. Because if I’ve learned anything, the key to progress is this: ↳ Take your time. ↳ Take a deep breath. ↳ Take a moment to celebrate. No matter how small. You deserve it. In an effort to follow my own advice (because who even does that), here are 7 wins I’m proud of heading into Year 27: ⤵️ 1. I’ve consistently written content for over 90 days. 2. I’m meeting my son for the 1st time next week. 3. I celebrated my 1-year wedding anniversary. 4. I’ve connected with my favorite creators. 5. I’m excited about what the future holds. 6. I’m proud of who I am becoming. 7. I started writing on LinkedIn. — I’ve learned that celebrating your wins is more than just feeling good. Because when we remind ourselves of our achievements, no matter how small, we remind ourselves how capable and worthy we truly are. So, here’s to not just moving forward but taking the time to look back and appreciate how far we’ve come. Because this life is one we should enjoy every step of the way.

I used to get caught up in getting it all done. There was always more to do and I thought if I could just work harder or work smarter, I would feel better. I would feel accomplished. But I just never got there. What I didn't realize, was that it would never be done. Celebrating was something I only did for the huge gains which did not happen very often. So I didn't cultivate those feelings of joy. I learned over time that celebrating your wins more frequently brought more joy to my life. So celebrate more often. You did great this week. Give yourself a pat on the back and find a way you can celebrate today. 🎉 🥂 Do something that brings you joy. 🔵 Have a picnic. You can do this at a park, at the beach, in your own yard, or even your own living room. 🔵 Cook a special meal. Doing this with friends or your kids can be fun. 🔵 Garden. Being outside, close to nature, and having something beautiful to look at when you are done can be a very joyful activity. 🔵 Explore your neighborhood. Just wander. You never know what treasures you will find. 🔵 Or just have a dance party. It's important to celebrate. It's important to cultivate those good feelings as much as you can. You are important! So, make it your purpose today to celebrate you.

Sandy is celebrating with a little treat each time she gets past a challenging part and keeps going. It is so motivating to her, and you can see her speed up near the end. What can you do to celebrate each effort. Each decision to do some self care. Each decision to work toward your goal? Share your ideas? I find just taking a moment to recognize it, think about it, and maybe say something outloud is very powerful. It may sound simple, but most of the time we don't acknowledge the little steps in our own heads. So just do that, its life changing. And then express it to another if you'd like. People love hearing positive things! If you hit a milestone, maybe you could celebrate by getting to do something you love, go on an extra walk, or go to the zoo. Or it could be a small purchase like a new song for $1.29. Any other ideas? Sandy is partial to a piece of dehydrated meat (which she got in this video!), or food of any kind! (also belly rubs)

It’s great to celebrate beginnings but there’s something more important to celebrate. When we start something new it’s usually cause for celebration. And for good reason. It’s great to start something new. Whether it’s starting... -a new business -a new career -a new endeavor -a new goal It’s great to celebrate starting something because getting started is half the battle. But I think it’s more important to celebrate sticking with something. Celebrate not giving up. Celebrate finishing something. Sometimes, seeing things to the end and just sticking with it is much harder. It’s easy to quit, it’s hard to keep going. Especially when things get difficult and seem impossible. So celebrate those times when you feel like giving up but you just keep going. Celebrate when you see something to the end Celebrate when you cross that finish line. Keep going and never give up.

When was the last time you took the time to celebrate? I don't mean the end of the project team meal or the lessons learned debrief. I mean really celebrate who you are and who you have become. You are not the person you were 5 years ago, 12 months ago or even 6 weeks ago. You will have learned new skills, developed new perspectives and gained either wider or deeper experience. Rather than rush on to the next thing, busy, busy, busy, take some time to reflect not just on what you have done but who you have become as a result. Doing this allows us to gather evidence of what we are capable of and this evidence provides fuel to the fire of your confidence. I am celebrating three decisions that I have made in the last week about where I choose to direct my time, energy and attention. Why do good things always seem to come in threes? A few years ago, I would have encountered the same situations and reacted very differently. I would have felt it was my responsibility to 'fix' things. I would have thrown myself into the task, even if I didn't necessarily have the time and it wasn't what was best for me. Today, I can appreciate that's not my job. I'm not the same person I was and neither are you! Take some time to appreciate what you have learned and how you have grown.
