As the AI world is shifting towards building agentic systems, OpenAI’s team has decided to give the world an open source gift. The team has released Swarm, an open source framework for building, orchestrating and deploying multi-agent systems. Managed by the OpenAI Solutions team, the framework is still in its experimental phase and is currently not intended for production. Swarm is designed to make agent coordination and execution lightweight, highly controllable, and easy to test. It achieves this using two core abstractions: Agents and handoffs. GenAI is set to reshape the software engineering landscape. According to Gartner’s latest report, by 2027, 80% of the engineering workforce will need to upskill as AI begins to take over more tasks, transforming how developers work. This shift, driven by AI engineering, is expected to boost productivity by automating routine tasks and assisting senior developers in large organizations. However, human expertise remains crucial. As Philip Walsh, PhD, senior principal analyst at Gartner, emphasizes, complex software development still requires human intervention. While AI can handle mid-level coding, senior engineers will need to master advanced skills like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), blending information retrieval with natural language generation (NLG). With AI poised to integrate more deeply into the industry, engineers with a blend of software, AI, and ML expertise will be in high demand. But AI’s role in law is far from over! jhana, a Bengaluru-based startup on a mission to build an "intelligent legal system" for Indian lawyers. “What we’re trying to build is a sort of paradigm shift that centralises all the datasets lawyers utilise, enabling them to be accessed and employed in various ways through AI,” Hemanth Bharatha Chakravarthy, a co-founder at Jhana.ai, told AIM. Artificial intelligence (AI) is particularly effective at improving efficiency and user experience in scaled, repetitive, data-rich processes—common in regulated industries like banking and insurance. Although these industries could benefit from AI, they have been slow to adopt it due to regulatory compliance and data privacy concerns. I was the CIO at a leading insurance company several years ago.
