Have you ever been in a social situation where you get to chatting with someone who is deeply knowledgeable in a topic for which you have passing knowledge at best, and then they blow your mind a little bit when you start peppering them with questions about it? That's what happened to us when we sat down with a medical statistician, Lewis Carpenter from Arcturis, to discuss real world data (RWD) as a means to gathering real world evidence (RWE) and how those related to randomized controlled trials (RCTs). So many acronyms, sure, but also so many concepts that are familiar, but which have fascinating similarities and differences from the statistical world that we're used to living in. This was one of those shows that we think you'll be mulling over for a long time after you give it a listen! https://lnkd.in/gBTNZeZh #analytics #podcast #statistics #medicalstatistics #rwd #rwe #rct

In a casual sense, before prepping for this episode, I would have said, yeah, I was totally familiar with "real world data." I would have said that, outside occasionally simulating data to try to understand some concept, that was the only data I work with as an analyst. I had no idea that "RWD" is a rigorously formalized concept in healthcare, and it's pretty interesting to think of it that way, including thinking of it as being distinct from RWE and RCT! Really fun discussion!

Can real world data (RWD) improve quality when modeling patient entry in budget impact analyses? Our whitepaper makes a case for using RWD to determine the cyclical patterns associated with treatment initiation. Our experts suggest that the expansion of availability and access to RWD provides an opportunity to examine conditions throughout the patient journey in much greater detail, allowing more accurate modelling of patient entry patterns in budget impact analyses.
